Our next Creator AMA will take place on Tuesday April 29th at 3pm PT in the Creator Hub Discord > General > Creator AMA voice channel. You’ll find an announcement in the creator-announcements channel where you can RSVP.
Gribbly will be the guest speaker / question answerer this month
We will have a build contest teaser image to share for the first time during the AMA
Most of us are sick of seeing military events at the top of the events page, so what if there was a change? We could add a category for military events for the people that are interested and not interested! Heck, maybe even categories for other types of events as well, such as workshops.
So my final question is, Is there a possibility we will ever get categories for the events page?
(This is the original post to Gamerr_VR’s linked post)
We really need more sophisticated user input detection, abstracting user inputs to “jump input”/“sprint input”/etc is extremely limiting in what you can do. Roblox Studio has these features and it’s something I’ve been wanting for a long time. Perhaps we could also have interactable HUD buttons for custom mobile controls as well.
Will there be an API chip added? This chip would be so powerful and useful. Roblox can already send API requests, the only limit roblox puts are rate limits. More information on my post. Add an API chip
A question about contests but could be seen as a general issue as well:
How do you plan to make contest winners feel special with their cosmetics now that UGC is everywhere? It’s kind of hard to tell what’s Rec Room-made and what’s user-made. The whole point of contest items was for them to stand out, but now they just blend in.
Are there any plans for potentially editing the UI interface in Rooms 2.0?
For example: say I was making a super crazy cinematic room, but the only problem is that I can see the screen mode controls literally all around my screen…
Another example: say I love having tons of ridiculous UI for a Rec Room RPG based game, how would I be able to interact with that UI ingame..?
Would there also ever be a way we can control that on-screen UI? For instance, we can click revive buttons for a fighting game that shows up on the screen all clickable and waiting to be interacted with instead of having to make a UI canvas which takes a little more effort and tricks to setup?
Can we get the Rooms 1.0 to Rooms 2.0 conversion explained better? As an R1 Creator looking into R2, will my CURRENT R1 projects be randomly transported into R2 one day, or will they stay R1 forever?
Will existing published/private projects be automatically converted, or stay? And will the conversion work like Limits V2, where you won’t be able to use R1 Maker Rooms anymore, or will it automatically make corrections to R2?
I’m working on a huge R1 project, and waking up one day to the room being changed into R2 and having all of my circuitry immediately outdated would be absolutely unacceptable; so I’m curious what the plan is for this feature.
You all have been doing great at Rec Room and correctly encouraging R2 support. I’m excited to see what the game has in store for the new R2 additions! Granting access to more niche RRO props was an amazing move, along with Stage Light V2!! Crossing my fingers that there are plans for a Range Finder V2 haha!!!
Is there any chance that we can receive synced list variables? Currently, there isn’t really any effective ways to store information in lists that are the same for everybody in the room.
Could we also expect to see the introduction of “global” variables in the future? (if a value changes in one instance, the value is updated in every instance and the data is saved forever. similar to cloud variables but the data is synced instead of local.)
I don’t know if this has been answered in previous AMAs but are we going to get a symmetry tool for the maker pen? We have the mirror clone but I think it’d be better if we had the option for choosing 3 or 5 axis to be mirrored at once
Will we receive more video/content support in Rec Room? It’s been a relatively hot topic to receive several improvements to Streamer Cam, (UI, Functionality, Circuitry Modifications) and will there be any sort of remaster/update to the Streamer Cam system for RR Content Creation? Like more customizable settings, and even.. skins?? That’s not the place for this to be asked, but is there anything planned for content creators in Rec Room? We’re slowly seeing Film Classes re open, like Script To Screen, and Visual Cinematics. Will this inturn mean that Rec Room will be granting more space to make better content? Like any content creation updates we will receive?
When can we expect more creation bugs to be fixed?
There are many creation bugs that just tend to go unnoticed for months, even years at a time. And i feel like every avenue of bug reporting just hasn’t felt super helpful if it’s a less impactful bug, even if it affects a core feature of creation. Many of these are pretty inconvenient, but i feel like because they don’t explicitly stop you from using a feature, they aren’t looked into almost at all.
I have linked here (Several creation bugs i've encountered - #10 by JebGaming) a handful of bugs, many of which had existed for months at the time of the creation of the post, and still exist now, half a year later. The post was interacted with once in January by a developer going through many posts relating to that bug of positions shifting over time in R2, but that is all.
Personally the one i am most passionate about is that direct-moving an object cannot be undone in the makerpen if done with the transform tool, even though it has always been possible with the move tool. Because of this, i very often will accidentally move something i had very neatly positioned a certain way, and have to manually put it back exactly how it was, not being able to just undo it and all. I cannot recall if it has been like this since the transform tool was introduced, but i feel like it’s been at least a year.
When can we expect to see the remaining core features of Rooms1.0 added to Rooms2.0?
It’s too hard for me to want to move over to Rooms2.0 with the remaining missing features, can you tell us if any of these are being worked on?
Costumes
We don’t have costumes yet, we can attach objects to the torso now, but that is all, there is no way to attach shapes directly to a player’s hands. Costumes are a very big part of Rec Room for the sake of RP. Rooms like militaries like to use all kinds of uniforms or armours, or they can help better immerse yourself in rooms like multiplayer horror where one player dresses up as a monster and chases others.
Holsters
We are still after all this time missing holsters, these are a core feature in almost any PVP or quest, but are missing completely. It is inconvenient and far less immersive to have to rely on inventory items for all this time, we need to be able to holster things onto our body for us and others to see, and to be able to quickly grab out instead of having to point and click on the underside of your watch and hope that it puts it in the desired hand. Inventory items are an awesome feature, but by no means a replacement for holsters. (also holsters with customisable positions and/or quantities would be nice )
Pickup/holster restrictions
We don’t have any “can pick up/holster” permissions we can set for objects with certain tags. This makes it hard to make dynamic props that you can only interact with when the room intends for you to, it has to be sealed away or covered up until you want a player to use it, whereas in R1 we could simply tag it with something unique “nohold”, and then give the player a role that blocks picking up objects with the “nohold” tag.
Can we please make avatar items stackable? Specifically "headwear’ items and the “shoulder & Back” items. The headwear tab is too broad , some people , me included, want to wear hats WITH headphones, or more than one bow in my hair , or a bandana WITH a cowboy hat. It’s a shame that when making an outfit, I am limited creatively. I can’t wear the strawberry cardigan with the strawberry bag even though they literally look made for eachother but they are both in the “shoulder & back” tab. I think this would help make avatars look more personalized, if we could stack avatar items. :3
As mentioned in a previous AMA, the community’s problem with maker ai hasn’t really gone up at all. Ai Art specifically. That said, can the team please consider the removal of the AI art aspect in Maker AI? A LARGE, and I mean LARGE portion of the art community that knows about Maker AI art usage are very upset.
(For those who don’t know, AI art steals previously made art by people and uses it to create its own. Watermarks can’t protect art from ai and it has become a significant problem within the art community.)
