Howdy everyone!
We’ve just launched a new beta version of the Maker Pen, designed to make creating simpler and more approachable when you’re playing Rec Room on a phone or tablet.
The Maker Pen started as a very simple tool. In 2016 when Rec Room launched it was used to draw in mid air in the 3D Charades room. Over time, we added tons of new features, transforming it into a powerful creation tool that enabled creators to make incredible rooms. Still, as Rec Room became available on other devices, the original VR Maker Pen did not always translate into the most fun and approachable experience.
We want creation in Rec Room to feel natural. We’re aiming to simplify how the Maker Pen works and make the user interface feel seamless, allowing you to focus more on the creative process and less on the mechanics of tool selection and menu navigation.
So this week, we’ve released the first set of improvements to the Maker Pen starting with the devices that needed the improvements most - phones and tablets. These changes prioritize things used most like the movement and palette tools. We’ve got even more simplifications coming, including improvements to circuit usability. Don’t worry - if you loved the Maker Pen as-is on phones and tablets, you can toggle back to the classic Maker Pen at any time using the ‘beta’ and non-beta Maker Pen icons at the top left of the UI.
