What’s Ours Is Yours

You can now officially use and monetize assets built by Rec Room in your creations. In the past, we’ve fudged this a bit - said yes to some, no to others, all in an ad-hoc way. We get a lot of requests to use the stuff we’ve made so we’re saying yes and making it clear.

:white_check_mark: What This Means for You:

  • You can now use Rec Room’s first party assets in your creations.
  • You can monetize creations that include these assets (yay, more earning potential!).
  • A small number of assets are restricted - either for legal or community reasons. If restricted assets are used, we may remove the content and follow up with the creator.

:light_bulb: What You Need to Do:

  • Check out the full policy.
  • If you’re monetizing, make sure your content follows our updated guidelines.

Have fun, get creative, and share your best work with the community!

Got questions? Check out the FAQ below.

FAQ:

Q: Can I use any first party asset I want?

A: Almost! Most assets are now available for use. Those that can’t be used are here. We’re restricting a small percentage due to licensing or other considerations. If it’s not on the list, feel free to use it.

Q: What happens if I use a restricted asset?

A: If you use an asset from the restricted list, your content may be taken down, and you could face moderation action. Please check before publishing.

Q: Can I monetize content that includes first party assets?

A: Yes! As long as you’re following our content policies and not using any restricted assets, you’re free to monetize your creations.

Q: Why are some assets restricted?

A: Some assets are restricted due to licensing agreements, brand protection, or to uphold community integrity for rare, prestigious or limited time items.

Q: Woah. Your restricted list is missing an item that definitely shouldn’t be available. How do I tell you?

A: We’ve pulled together what we think is the comprehensive list of restricted items. But we are human, so if you think we missed something, let us know in the comments and we’ll review and add it if it should be there.

I appreciate the in-depth exclusions for limited items. I’m sure the community and the people who own those items appreciate it too.

This is a really neat policy in general. I hope people use it properly and we all see some cool stuff come out of it.

Are you going to put the unavailable RR assets in the Props Tab in the Maker Pen?

Does this mean we can use the rec center in published work? Im confused, cause normally you cant copy the rec center but some people made RR studio recreations

As someone who has wanted to use these, this is a great update. But I think there should be a way to get RR assets officially rather than having to use third-party tools.
I don’t think rare items should be restricted though - Sure, I get that you don’t want people making custom clothing resembling class of 2016 or raw data items, but I think they should be allowed in RRS rooms, especially if you just (for whatever reason) want to showcase them rather than make them equippable.

Missing Items (or items you should consider adding to the list)

  • Bugcrowd Rewards (White Hacker Hat & Suit)
  • Gold Maker Pen (1st anniversary of Partner Program)
  • Partner Program Rewards (Gold Hoodie, Shutter Shades, Top Hat & Royal Cape)
  • Seller Swag Items (Premium Maker Pen included)
  • Sponsored Club Rewards (Create Your Own Universe Maker Pen)
  • Workshop Rewards (Day & Night Maker Pens)

.

  • RRO Specific Items? (or specifically Quest, Rec Royale, and Stunt Runner tiered rewards)

I’m pretty sure they are allowed as they are under the first party assets list

How do we obtain meshes (like the hoodie, hat and shoes) without ripping any game files? I don’t like ripping anything.
