Uploading Audio, Videos, and Images from devices without studio

Hi, I saw that @KatyA7X got an idea for more Share Camera features, including the ability to record videos. I got a few ideas for importing media in Rec Room without using Studio.

IMAGES AND THE DISPLAY SCREEN
You can use the Display Screen. It can display any kind of image you upload from any device you’re using: Mobile, PC, Quest, Console, etc.

It supports JPEG, PNG, and PSD files.

You can also scale the Display Screen to any dimension to fit an image. You can also enable transparent backgrounds for displaying logos for example.

I used this Text Screen as an example of what it might look like, and I made the design of the VCR and the VHS Tape.

VIDEO FILES
It’s a bit different when uploading videos. You can’t do it unless a VCR is wired to it, and you need to put a VHS tape in.

I chose a VCR and VHS because Rec Room is set in the 80’s. All you do is connect the VCR to the Display Screen and pop a VHS tape with a video in it. You can also type in some text and label it. (EX: You can label it as “Rec Center Footage.”)

To upload a video, just configure the VHS tape, and click the button in the config menu that says, “Upload file.”

You may choose to upload one from your device, from your Share Camera, or copy and paste a YouTube link. (If Rec Room adds a copy and paste function for VR users.)

There are 2 ways to play the video:
You can choose to grab the tape and manually put the tape in by hand, or wire an execution to the “Play Tape” input on the VCR.

EXAMPLE OF AUTOMATIC TAPE PLAYING EVENT:

BUTTON PRESSED >>> PLAY TAPE.

While the tape is in, you can toggle a playback menu so you can pause, rewind, or fast-forward a video that is playing.

It supports MP4, MOV, and PRPROJ files.

AUDIO
You can also upload audio from your device, and connect it to an audio player. You upload your audio file (music, SFX, ambience, voices.), and connect it to an audio player like this.

It supports MP3 and WAV.

Where you find those items:
Maker Pen Palette > Components > Display Screen, VCR, VHS tape, and Uploaded Audio File.

You can also instantly make VHS tapes after you record videos, similar to printing polaroid photos.

After you’re done recording, or if you want to show a video you made to your friends, click on the button on your Share Camera that says, “Make VHS,” and the tape pops right in front of you.

Solid concept, you explained it well. One of the issues I would see with this is that audio and video take data to transmit, it’s one of the reasons why you can only have so many audios loaded at any given moment.

Besides that, explained very well. Good thinking
