Our next Creator AMA will take place on Friday May 30th at 3pm PT in the Creator Hub Discord > General > Creator AMA voice channel. You’ll find an announcement in the creator-announcements channel where you can RSVP.
Max from the Avatars Team will join us this month and I’ll try to get Gribbly or Nick to join us too.
In the blog post " Why We Are Focused on Enabling Creation for Everyone," it talks about how the previous attempts at monetization in RROs have failed, and that there is no “proven” strategy to monetize here.
Was profitability a goal for the RROs mentioned, like Showdown, Rec Royale, and Run the Block?
Why doesn’t RR explore more proven monetization options within RROs, especially in the context of recuperating development costs? For example, the only monetization in most RROs is avatar items. In Make it to Midnight, why weren’t there buyable hammer skins, bonky outfits, cage skins, or a new killer? You could’ve walled this behind RR+ as well, or made it so that RR+ subscribers get double the amount of tickets/xp per round (would need a “is RR+ subscriber” chip, which feels doable…)
Rooms like MITM exist in a Rooms framework - has there been any exploration of the team to allow the community to help submit updates to these games?
What is the status of the contest? With the amount of found bugs that we are all running into, I aswell as several other creators do not think it is viable to proceed with the set dates at the moment. Rooms 2.0 is clearly still too unstable.
It would awesome to be able to make our animations grow or shrink to add more lively elements to our rooms. Imagine being in a normal room, and then all the decorations around you starting to grow making you feel minature. Or having a big monster that, once you beat it, shrinks into a comically tiny unthreatening version of itself
Add a toggle in Maker Perm to control whether neon textures emit light, and expand the neon color range with brighter, more vibrant options. This would give creators more control, improve visuals, and open up new creative possibilities
First, it would be really helpful to have a toggle in the configuration menu that lets us control whether the neon texture actually emits light into the environment. Sometimes, we want that glowing look without it affecting the scene’s lighting, especially for stylistic builds or when trying to keep performance smooth. Other times, we might want the full lighting effect for more impact. Having a simple on/off switch would give creators much more control depending on the project.
Second, I think the neon colors could really use a boost. Right now, they’re a bit limited and don’t always have the brightness or variety you’d expect from neon. It’d be awesome to see a wider range of colors—more vibrant options, deeper tones, and maybe even sliders for brightness or saturation. This would open up a lot of creative possibilities, especially for anyone making stylized or high-energy environments.
Since on New Bean and FBA we can see our hands while grabbing the objects, will sometime in the future be a way to adjust how we can grab us creators make, Especially for Non-RRS Users. for example a Sword we make from scratch.
It would be awesome if we could add a short status that will appear on our friend’s lists so we can better connect with each other… like “Who’s up for Paintball? Hit me up!” Or “Filming a video, Need actors!” Or even just simple random things like “I heart pizza”
It could really help to see what everyone is currently up to, instead of spam inviting our entire friend list to find paintball players when none of them are interested, or not having to ignore a ton of invites from others because you are busy filming a video or building a room. Being able to add a simple Status would be amazing! =)
How can Rec Room better balance player/creator wants and dev wants to boost the desire for RR+? Maybe by weeklys led by popular UGC creators or adding more highly requested creation tools and incentives to support high quality content? Players and creators are more likely to buy RR+ or support the game if they feel their requested features, creation tools, and creators are being prioritized.
Feel free to take this in whatever direction you’d like, it wasn’t originally phrased as a question lol, so interpret it as you see fit.
a topic that piqued my interest was the mention of a “Status.” I noticed a lot of people expressing the desire for a status feature similar to what exists in VRChat. I believe this would be very useful, as it could help those who want to set their status to “busy” to avoid invites, or “available” to allow others to join them regardless of their location, even if they are in an invite-only room (if it’s their instance). Overall, I think Rec Room should consider implementing this feature. It could be a great addition to the game, helping to reduce spam and allowing people to appear offline to avoid certain situations.
Can we get an update of when Costume Dummy’s will be released in rooms 2.0 ? I have a couple games in the vault that I wanna drop & all I’m waiting on is costume dummy’s
When will Rec Room Studio access be rolled out to the remaining 50% of creators?
In November 2024, there was an announcement saying 25% of Creators had access.
In January 2025, there was another announcement saying 50% of Creators had access.
Since then, I haven’t seen anything and personally I would have expected another wave a while ago already.
It would be nice to be able to create custom Friend “Tags/Groups” that we can assign to players on our friends list, and can turn on and off which groups we want to “appear online/offline” to. We already have “Favorites” but it would be nice if we could create our own Friend Tags, Like “Paintball Friends,” “Building Friends,” and “Filming Friends.” I have an English Meetup each week, so being able to tag those friends with a custom “English Meetup” Tag would be great to just appear online to that group during our meetup, instead of getting tons of Paintball invites from all my other friends on my “favorites” list while I’m in class.
And we can give the same friend multiple Tags if they are both Paintball AND Building friends for example. This could really help with friend management, not ALWAYS appearing offline to some and ALWAYS appearing online to others… just based on a single “Favorites” list
Any plans for expanding Pop-up games to UGC?
It’s a great way to (sorta) make friends (or enemies) with it, so why not expand the system to hand-select developers rather than relying on a now boring HotPicks?
