Rooms2 MAJOR Issues

I haven’t tried to even touch Rooms 2 yet because of the major bugs still affecting the building aspect of the MakerPen.

Our team works on platforms like PC and Meta Quest 3/3S

Tubing constantly shifts while building, animation is 100x way more difficult than it needs to be now, the lag in R2 is unbearable, it’s just overall more and more frustrating to work with.

I know circuiteers enjoy more of the chips and factors that R2 has to offer, but for us as builders who NEED to build for a contest, R2 is NOT READY. It’s way too unstable, and with a bunch of people working together in one room, it’s borderline impossible to build.

(Edit: PLEASE make sure your replies are constructive!)

Rooms 2 is way too unstable to make a contest room. Working in a room alone I’ve notice shapes shifting, but to expect us to build with 6 people? There is no way a high qaulity room can be made with this many bugs. One of my iventions with over 1300 shapes make me drop down to 2 fps when i look at it and point my makerpen at it. Animators are having trouble because of the grouping. I couldnt even join my group this morning because i kept getting an error that said the room data couldnt load. You cant see what your selecting because the highlight on objects bugs out. And there are so many more bugs… To expect people to put up with these bugs for a month is insane.

Rooms 2 is NOT made with makerpen shapes in mind, its way to unstable

Rooms V2 is so unbelievably buggy and was clearly just built to support RRS, it’s unfair to limit the contest to Rooms V2!!

Maker pen shape collisions like to shift, and you can get soft locked if you run into the shifted collisions. You would have to use invisible collisions for everything, and i crashed trying to clone 200 of them.

Rooms 2 isn’t ready. Please let us use the version we prefer.

To add to this, there is also a long standing issue where moving further away from room origin causes any objects that are able to be manipulated to act “sticky”? They hardly move unless you jerk your camera/hand in the direction you’re manipulating it, and it doesn’t even end up where you want it to go! this is currently my only criticism with rooms 2 so far

I personally think that the best solution would be to bring back Room 1.0 for the contest, because unfortunately it’s impossible to build properly, whether alone or with friends. Tubes shift way too much, animations cause huge bugs even though they’re simple, Rec Room shapes aren’t properly optimized, and most importantly, it’s a shame to have to build alone in a room out of fear of crashing — and even then, there’s still a chance of crashing.

The best would be either to extend the build phase to give time to fix all the Room 2.0 bugs, or to bring back Room 1.0 for the contest!

It has been 2 days since we started our contest room in Rooms 2 and our team has found so many bugs that don’t just happen once but multiple times. Some very common bugs are huge lag spikes when anyone tries to drop or pick up their maker pen, having more than 1 person in the room makes lag much much worse. Crashing a forced restart are very common.

Animation issues that my team has experienced as well is really really REALLY bad. We had one simple animation that would most likely reappear a few times because how the room will be. This one animation single handedly made the game drop from 120 fps to 20 fps. That is unplayable and we are just getting started imagine the frames when the room is complete. It would be impossible for anyone to have a fun to building and playing the room.

Building with maker pen shapes is a pain and I’m not going to complain how much more complex it is to build but it just is really really buggy. We have experienced shapes shifting for no reason, shapes moving when moving a different shape, a lot of lag while building, and from what I heard the more we build the room the worse the lag will get anyway.

Overall returning to the fact this is a requirement in the current contest to use Rooms 2. This is unusable and just unplayable from just first glance the first 2 days of creating. It’s not ready to be used in contests far from being ready. I think and many other creators would also say this as well but it would be great if we can get rid of the requirement of using Rooms 2. It has been 2 years since the last creator contest and it feels like they just want to test if Rooms 2 can work for this, and it can’t.

Unless Rec Room studio is entirely involved, it is IMPOSSIBLE to work in Rooms 2.

Building a certain amount with the makerpen will produce low performance and crash your game between ALL high and low end devices. Moving under certain collisions will soft lock you, being unable to move UNLESS given makerpen to fly. Certain amounts of collision will close your game. Certain peoples room data won’t load, making them unable to join the room, ultimately corrupting the room.

Although Rooms 2 is a big up for the circuit workers, it’s what makes the builders IMPOSSIBLE to build in. The testing phases obviously weren’t enough. my assumption is that there was no preparation for building like how people are building for this contest.

I feel that using Rooms 1 is the best choice for this contest until Rooms 2 is PROVEN ready.

Hey folks, please make sure to give constructive replies. One sentence replies saying you don’t like Rooms 2 doesn’t help you or us. If a comment is extremely low effort I will remove it. The Forum is a place for mature discussion amongst staff and creators. Help me keep it that way.

Rooms 2 is made with RRS in mind it hardly runs on vr and ios it’s just a pain to work with

Most unfortunate thing about this is probably how long these issues has been persisting, I first used rooms 2 just before its official release, and have been ONLY using it for around a year and a half, in that time I’ve seen just about every bug there is come from it, and learnt one very important thing, DO NOT USE MAKER PEN OBJECTS. They are often incredibly unstable, causing crashes, random framerate drops or changing shape when saving, spawning inventions or generally just trying to use them, along with issues where the collisions of the objects somehow disconnect from the main object and slowly drift further from it. Or what about the issue where you walk from one makerpen object to another and it soft locks you? Almost forgot that one. These are all bugs I’ve experienced JUST THIS WEEK. I’m not even taking part in this contest because of these problems specifically, I understand that these decisions are made way up the food chain so I feel that the people responsible for these decisions need to spend more time understanding these tools and understanding the issues arising from them, because right now, it seems like there is a major lack of that, a massive focus on an AI which can’t even do basic circuitry correctly.

Rooms 2 has consistently struggled when it comes to Maker Pen compatibility.

Collisions for shapes are unreliable—sometimes just walking on a platform or near a wall causes soft locks or unexpected glitches. The constant shifting of tubes makes building practically unusable, and many creators have voiced their frustrations about this.

We even had a complex shape-based invention that worked flawlessly in Rooms 1, but in Rooms 2, it tanked performance to the point of being unusable. It really feels like Maker Pen objects weren’t properly tested or optimized for this system, especially since most successful Rooms 2 creations rely heavily on Rec Room Studio and 3D models with CV2 logic. Maker Pen shapes are barely used anymore, and that says a lot.

If these issues aren’t addressed soon—or if Rooms 1 isn’t allowed for the contest—we’re very likely going to sit this one out. The experience is just too buggy right now to build confidently with the Maker Pen in Rooms 2.

Hopefully improvements are on the way, because the Maker Pen still has so much creative potential and deserves a proper place in the future of Rooms 2.

Rooms 2 is in no way “stable enough” to build in for the current contest. There are many major issues making it difficult to create. The skybox will strobe in and out including the things you’ve built as well, world space will turn off every time you close your mp UI, things disappear sometimes and you can’t get them back, things will sometimes shift around, the tube points still show when you move out of edit mode, the instance will fail a lot causing people not being able to get in the room, etc etc the list goes on and on.

Y’all I might be switching up from my last message but…

In my opinion I genuinely believe r2 isn’t “impossible” to use. There are some bugs I mentioned before like collisions, tubes, etc but I feel like this is a really good way to patch these bugs. This is likely the most amount of people who have used r2 at one time, and it’s going to help remove all the bugs. I saw a comment before and it changed my belief on this, roomsv2 isn’t impossible to use but it’s heavily unoptimized.

As long as they fix at least some of these bugs within the next week and a half, I don’t have a major issue with rooms2, that said, here are some bugs I or my teammates have encountered.

Tube points: After double editing a tube you have the option to edit out of it. The problem is that when you edit out of it, the points stay on your screen and there is no way at all to remove them.

Collisions: for some odd reason, whenever you try to toggle the collisions on makerpen objects, it just doesn’t work. It still has collisions. Although it may work fine for some, ive also seen a good portion of people who it doesn’t work for as well. It might be a quest 3 issue but, I don’t know.

Crashing: yeah so, crashing is a very major issue right now. I don’t really have an explanation as to why, but it just happens

So far that’s all I’ve encountered but I WILL be updating as I build more

Tried to use rooms 2 as recently as 2 weeks ago.

Many issues including

#1 even with a simple room it crashes a lot

#2 it is convoluted to animate, especially if using multiple chips, you can’t link them together.

#3 once things are grouped, it is much more complex to edit or delete, resulting in glitches of things being left where they shouldn’t be

#4 the UI for heighrarchy is difficult to navigate in vr, often appearing behind my head, or at least 90 degrees away from the maker pen menu

#5 random crashes, even in very simple rooms. Crashing a lot more frequently than ever experienced while building in rooms 1,and auto backups not working frequently, resulting in lost work

#6 when building as a team, people are seeing different things, different shapes in different places, then it has changed again once saved

#7 most rooms 1 creations, even those you made and privately saved yourself, cannot be imported, or when imported are missing parts.

#8 the heighrarchy system and style of building is not enjoyable. Even with an understanding of how it is supposed to work, it is still convoluted, and makes creation a chore, rather than something positive.

9# other people mentioned this, and I forgot how much the slow frame rate put me off. It was dropping to about 20fps while not building, and then dropped to what felt like 1-2 fps while anyone in the room was making changes with the makerpen the other day. It makes it impossible to work without nausea. I haven’t recently experienced such consistently slow performance with a simple rooms 1 map.

Rooms 2 is NOT ready for contests yet there are still so many bugs.
Here are some of the issues I’ve had:

  • Builds shift when building or saving the room.
  • Constant crashing while building.
  • Having multiple items inside a container drops my FPS to around 5.
  • Collisions randomly break or glitch.

Rooms 2 is not well suited for the Makerpen when it comes to building in R2.
But, R2 is really good for CV2 and RRS.

Rooms 2.0, a room system that is not contest stable and ready.

Why you may ask, I shall provide those reasons.

  • My Maker Pen shapes are literally moving and shifting, how is that even possible.
  • It’s impossible to spawn high ink legacy inventions into 2.0 Rooms without crashing.
  • Animations have never been buggier and heavily low frame dropping.
  • Collisions for shapes cannot be trusted what so ever with the risks of soft locking, glitches, and once in a blue moon crashed my game.
  • Just overall random crashing that happens within some intervals of time. (don’t know why but could just be a me thing).
  • Overall lag when it comes to working with multiple people at once in a Rooms 2.0 room.

I don’t even know if this was made with support and backbone of fully Maker-Pen made rooms, but since those are the types of rooms we are required to make for the Solarpunk Contest, it seems very dim and unlikely with these very bad issues and bugs that would even make it possible for me, my team, and all of these creators that have these issues, to make a well functioning room under Rooms 2.0 for the contest.

It may have been more toward other things like gadgets/circuitry and Rec Room Studio, but that’s just a guess, hopefully to see some importance and fixes come to light.
