The Tutorial Program Reworked

This is a request to re-open the Tutorial Program, however to ensure that it can stay open for an extended period of time with minimal work needed by staff, the following is proposed:

  • Community-Run: Players who acheive Tier 3 may become judges to help run the program.
  • Collaborations: Players may earn Creator Bubblies after hitting milestones when working together.
  • Celebration: Tutors will be recognized for their hard work and can celebrate together in an event each month.

How could I participate and earn rewards? Videos will be judged by:

  • Time: Just like Workshops, Leagues, and Classes, it takes time to grow. As you do so, you will earn rewards to reflect how far you’ve come. Minimum time required would be 2 weeks for Tier 1, 1-3 months for Tier 2, and 3+ months for Tier 3.
  • Number: To earn rewards, you will need to make tutorial videos. But one video will not be enough to earn all rewards. You will need 2+ videos for Tier 1, 5+ videos for Tier 2, and 10+ videos for Tier 3.
Video Length will be omitted, as a helpful tutorial video should not be bloated, but straight to the point.
  • Quality: Basic quality will be required to earn rewards. Higher tiers are expected to have higher quality. Basic quality or immediate rejections are detailed. If you check the boxes, you are eligible for rewards. The rubric (work in progress) may be found here.

We want tutors making useful videos, without being pressured with submission deadlines.

Please read this document for a full break-down. This page was converted to a feature request and updated to be easier to read on 1 May 2025. Grading rubric and other wording changes were done on 31 May 2025.

If you have any suggestions on what could improve these ideas, please leave a comment. If you would like to see this possibly become a reality, please upvote this post and spread the word!

I want this to be a real thing

I would love this!! This would allow the program to be up and running without staff ‘wasting’ resources. We should have more community ran programs like this.

Who Doctoral and bachelor tutors are?

Tiers or levels within the program. It goes from Bachelor (Blue), Master (Red), to Doctoral (White). You can think of it like teacher’s rewards, with Purple, Orange, and Green/Black.

Id love this idea, if they actually like this idea i would be happy because they said it was going to be back in no time but as i see in the creator hub on recnet they are still reviewing the vids

They’re not actually reviewing submissions. They finished a month or two after closing submissions around early/mid-2024.

They never updated the page, nor reopened. They wanted R2 to be in a better position, which we can see by the contest announcement, it is.

I really like this! It sounds like a fun and rewarding way to get involved.

Great idea! You should be the main runner of the program since you got ALL the best RR knowledge; or video partners could run the program like RCL and such. Or other Tier 3’s could moderate it; as I think anyone being able to would be really messed up. But people of trusted status being able to run it would be great; RR should move towards putting more onto the community to help run the game; most RR issues right now are just because it’s all coming out of the devs pockets and not for free by the community. What if there was a monthly vote in the Rec Center for UGC and maker pen made rec centers to be featured for a week? With your help RR could grow a much more reliable and engaged community dude!!

Maybe a little less frequently so you can build up hype for the event. Hand out awards almost like the roomies.

I love this idea, It would be very efficient and easier on the Team.

Of course there’s concerns of well favoritism which is why I think it should be restricted a bit just in case someone get into the program and “Gives” the gown to like a friend that wants it if you get where I’m coming from.

Other than that this is a Terrific Idea and I’m Eagerly awaiting for this programs return. Since it is a Rooms 2 focused it’d be cool to see like Newer gowns or a 4th gown like the Maker Pen Class Teachers get but like this one could be black whit and red or something along the lines of that.

I do see this as a problem and took it into consideration when working on this. The preventative measures are as such:

  • Staff can appoint judges without the other judge’s vote. Normally judges would need to vote majority “yay” for an applicant to become a community judge. However Staff sponsors may appoint someone a judge if they feel that tutor deserves it.
  • If a judge is found to be attempting to increase a tutor’s tier prematurely, the other judges may discuss this and possibly remove that judge from their volunteer position (majority vote, Staff may tiebreak and has final say).
  • Judges do not officially receive any exclusive in-game item. This prevents those who are only taking part in the program for the items, from becoming a community judge.
  • The rubric was created to give a checklist of what a tutorial should or should not include. If a video does not hit all the marks, then it cannot be awarded/registered. There is some leeway for how judges want to judge, but at the very least the lowest tiers should reliably earn their rewards when they follow the rubric exactly.
  • Tier 1 will need only one judge’s approval. Tier 2 will need two judge’s and Tier 3 needs at least three. If there are a lot of judges, this can change to a percentage vote (as the original write-up of this had). With more judges needed for higher tiers, this should help prevent a judge from just giving their friends gowns.

I was not a fan of 2024’s wave, in which everyone who submitted was awarded. “Favoritsm” as you put it, may still happen. However it will not be as bad as 2024, nor should it happen often. Hopefully with the new rules, we’ll see tutors awarded for quality, not just quantity.

As for allowing the Tutorial Gown (Teacher) [aka the Rooms 2 teaching gown], all tutorials moving forward are required to be in Rooms 2. Therefore it wouldn’t really be needed if all the gowns are “Rooms 2” rewards. Ultimately the inclusion of the Rooms 2 gown (or a new color) would be up to the staff sponsoring the program.

Personally, I’d give Workshops a new gown color, as they only have mkp skins, yet can be as involved with teaching as classes or tutorials (depending on the host and how they run the workshops).
