The new Dorm Room, my review

First off I want to start by saying that the new dorm rooms are awesome. Being able to get rid of more clutter in the base dorm makes me so happy. I finally feel like this is the time to make a dorm room.

In the process of updating my dorm, I’ve noticed a couple of quirks that I am unsure if they are features or bugs. So here’s what I’ve found, I’ve also added some comments to start a dialog for a potential fix.

1) The walls can’t be moved with the makerpen itself.

  • This one took me by surprise at first, as I thought we had more freedom. It took me a few minutes to realize, the walls are tagged, and they could be moved with circuits. Perhaps allow users to move them with the pen.

2) The ceilings and floor collisions remain, even if the ceilings and loft floor aren’t there.

  • This one is my biggest issue. Plz Rec Room, let me do something about their existence. If I could select them and move them, to match the makerpen shapes I’ve built, I would be happy with that. If I could just delete them entirely, that would also be great!

3) The size of the dorm

  • I don’t have much to add to this point, other than the dorm doesn’t feel like it’s any bigger than the original dorm. To me, it feels smaller, as I can’t build below the dorm anymore. I would like it if there was a visual for the limits. I know that there are inventions for this, but I feel as if some newer players might not know to look in the invention store for this kind of thing.

4) The Trees

  • While I love aspen (or birch) as much as the next guy, can they be added to the things that can be moved or deleted? I know this would make Greta upset, but I don’t want them there, they are taking up valuable real estate.

5) Rooms 2.0

  • I know work is being done to make rooms2 better, I just would love to have the new gadgets and hierarchy that rooms 2 provides, in my dorm. Adding Rooms2 to dorm rooms couldn’t come out fast enough.

None of the above points are that problematic that it will prevent me from finishing my dorm. However having these things added I believe will make the experience that much better.

TLDR:

  1. Walls can’t be moved with the makey pen, plz fix
  2. There are immoveable, unselect able, permanent invisible collisions in the floor, ceilings, and loft floor. plz remove.
  3. New dorm feels smaller than old dorm
  4. Trees are in the way, I want to move them, or delete them.
  5. Rooms2 in dorm rooms when?

I think a had a good time with the update but i agree with removing the trees the most

With circuits? Hmm… I moved everything below the map by moving an animation gizmo itself after everything was connected to it, the only thing that absolutely doesnt move is the doorway that used to take you to the rec center. There’s also a small invisible floor barrier in front of it that can’t be selected.

If this helps at all, I was able to delete my carpet. I’ve never been happier.
