Game AI alpha - New AI circuits for creators

Howdy Everyone,

If you’ve played Rate My Avatar or Snap Judgment recently, you’ve already gotten a glimpse of these new tools. All of those experiences use AI to drive gameplay. Whether it’s analyzing your look, generating a response, or judging your drawing skills, behind the scenes they’re powered by a new system we’ve been building called Game AI.

Game AI is a new set of chips that will soon be available to creators. These chips let you interact with various AI services: text, voice, 3D mesh generation, image generation, and more. They also support a wide range of inputs: voice, text, photos, or a combination of all of them. That means you’ll be able to build rooms / games / characters that react to players, generate dynamic content on the fly, and open up entirely new forms of interaction and gameplay.

To explore the possibilities, we’ve given Game AI chips access to a few creators to build experimental rooms. You may start seeing those rooms go live today. This phase is about testing boundaries. We’re trying to see what works, what breaks, and what it costs to use the Game AI chips in different types of rooms. Every time a Game AI chip runs, it costs Rec Room some money, and we need to understand the costs here before rolling them out to more creators.

What does this mean for you?
Our goal is to give all creators access to Game AI chips in the future. But because of the costs tied to their usage, they’ll work a little differently than traditional chips. Right now, the plan is to let you fund Game AI chip usage through your room’s token monetization. If a visitor spends tokens in your room, you can choose to let those tokens power the Game AI chips. We want to give creators access to these Game AI chips more or less at cost (what it costs us, is what it costs you). That system is still being designed and we should have more details to share soon.

In the meantime, stay tuned. We created a Google Form where you can let us know if you’re interested in testing Game AI circuits: https://forms.gle/3HHAKJddYkKeoHiB8. We have no ETA on when we might do more Game AI testing but it can’t hurt to sign up if you’re interested!

If you want to chat about the Game AI rooms you see being published we made a new Game AI channel in the Creator Hub Discord: Creator Hub

Note - the Game AI team is busy with all of this testing and development so don’t expect a lot of dev answers in there, this is more of a community discussion space. If you have Game AI questions please leave them on this post and we can try to get answers to the top questions over time or we can answer them at the next Creator AMA.

Cheers!

This is really cool. I’m very excited to see how these new tools work and how creators will use them to enhance the Rec Room experience! :exploding_head:

I can’t say I’m not curious but there are so many better things rec room could be doing with their time and resources.

Pretty much another thing wanted by the investors or higher ups, this isn’t what the community is asking for. If you want people to create high quality games creation needs to be stable enough to let players create, also the game has to be optimized for players to enjoy the game, AI isnt the right move as it takes away creativity and also the natural ability to create stuff your way. Creation isn’t for everyone and shouldn’t be pushed towards everyone

What in the world is “Sketchy Showdown” man I’m confused :wilted_flower:

No, absolutely not, through all the AMA’s recently you’ve heard creators detest AI, through all your feedback you’ve heard creators detest AI. Introducing AI in this form is just driving a stake through a already diminished, and demotivated creator community, especially after all the crap you put us through with this last contest.
Let people’s creativity speak through their projects, do not let AI replace that.
Shame on Rec Room for doing this to their community.

Sounds awesome. Will there be a possibility where we can have custom voices, instead of the custom Coach one?

People say this takes away creativity but when used in the right way it can very much enhance creativity. For example I was one of the few who got early access and my room just got published.
It’s called ^CriticalResponse
Been working on it for the past 4 weeks and I can assure you that you’ll be amazed by it.
Without AI this room would never have been possible. Go check it out (or not) and let me know what you think. Would love to hear your thoughts

I’ve been using these chips for the past 4 weeks. And I can tell you that there are actually 9 different voices (as of right now) to choose between. Not sure if they’ll add more in the future. But to get even more variety you can even tell the AI to have a certain accent. So there’s plenty of voice options

Check out ^CriticalResponse and then try to tell me that again lol :joy:

Amazing! Ideas rr  keep up the work

I Used to pray for times like this🙏
(It has now became reality!!)

Its boring there’s not much happening, im just sitting there waiting for a call i know about generating energy but these kinda games are not for me at all I like stuff that is action based and shooting like laser tag and fighting games

Sure, that’s fine. But you can’t say it completely takes away creativity just because you don’t like the use cases for it. It’s still a very creative process. The AI didn’t build anything in my room. I did it all myself, modeled everything, textured, designed and all. :man_shrugging:

AI totally can be used for good! Just it can/tends to be waayyy more easily be used for immoral stuff.
