Seriously, what are you doing?
Nobody who actually cares about creating in Rec Room asked for this. No real creator wants generative AI making their stuff for them. It kills the whole point of making anything. If people can just click a button and have the AI puke out a room or a game you’re going to flood Rec Room with even more brainrot garbage and cash grab rooms than there already are.
It’s already hard enough for actual creative and passionate projects to get noticed because of all the low-effort stuff. Now you’re basically handing people a way to make even more of it without trying at all. It’s going to kill player creativity completely. Why would anyone bother learning how to actually build design or make something good if the AI can just do it for them?
Maker AI should have just been an assistant and something that helps explain stuff better if the creator gets confused, tells you how to wire things and why, maybe even suggests ideas without creating anything for you. That would actually help creators get better instead of replacing them.
If you roll this out the way it sounds like you’re planning to you’re going to lose a ton of respect from the people who built this platform with their time creativity and hard work. Please rethink this before it’s too late.
I agree. AI is making everyone lazy nowadays. Every single commercial is now AI this, and AI that.
I agree. Nobody wants to play an AI generated game. At least give us a filter so we can filter out rooms built with Maker AI. And as a CV2er, I enjoy the challenge of figuring out how to make something work. Even if AI was to the point where it could do it for me, I wouldn’t want it to. An AI assistant to help you find the right chip, or look something up for you would be awesome, but building a game with generative AI isn’t something I would be particularly interested in.
I agree. I don’t want AI slop on a platform already filled with slop.
Might be a long shot, but I wouldn’t bet that this isn’t the entire point.
More cash grabs? More money spent on tokens. They’re trying to test and upgrade this so that eventually they earn more from the slop rooms than the AI is costing them. At the end of the day money is all that matters anymore, at least in my eyes after seeing the past 3 years.
I totally agree ! I’m a circuiteer and i don’t want to be replaced by an AI !
I don’t think that the ai will be good enough to be better than an actual person for a while, and even if it does get better than a real person, it will be quite difficult to use if you don’t understand what it’s done, i think that the ai will mainly be used by advanced circuiteers to speed up the process, or by people who want to learn about how it works.
Hey,
I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts it’s clear you care a lot about Rec Room and the creative community. You make some valid points about how important it is to keep creativity and effort at the core of what people build here.
At the same time, I think tools like Maker AI could be helpful if they’re used the right way more as assistants than replacements. They might even help new creators get started or learn faster, without taking away from the value of building things by hand.
