A year or so back, MollyRR posted a suggestion of the Room Variable an Zendesk. I thought about the many ways this could be used, so I’m here to expand on that suggestion, with Room Events. Room Events could be a toggleable option in the Event Definition chip or Event Sender, so that whenever the sender triggers in one instance, the receiver would trigger in all other active instances, with another toggle option to trigger in all or certain subrooms also. With this type of event, you could trigger an announcement in your entire room, or trigger a live event so everyone can watch it at the same time. Room Variables can act similar to the Room Events. When Room Variables get updated, they can change in all active instances, and will also be set in instances that come online after the variable gets updated. This could be used to display a constant quote or trivia question of the day. If you like this suggestion, upvote it!
If you own a room that always has public instances open, like black cat, I could see how this would be helpful. I’ve seen something about a multi instance event, does that happen for everyone when the event gets full, where it’ll send players to a new instance of the event? I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen so I wasn’t sure
Would probably make sense if it was something that creators had to activate, could see something like a hacker sending an event that costs a lot of cpu to kill the game for all players in a room
I the love idea of Room Variables and Room Events, and I wanted to expand on this with another potential use case. Imagine a faction system where players can join factions, be assigned ranks, and compete on leaderboards that are shared across all instances of a game or room. The faction leader could manage members, assign roles, and the leaderboard would automatically update as players contribute to the faction.
For example, each player’s performance could update the faction’s score, which could be reflected in a dynamic leaderboard visible to everyone across different room instances. This would create a deeper, competitive, and more social gameplay experience. Plus, the Room Variables could track faction data persistently, even across different sessions.
I think this would fit perfectly with the Room Events/Variables concept and add even more possibilities for room creators!
