The biggest gripe I have with R2 right now is mainly makerpen shapes. I’ve noticed the more of these you have in a room, the more long it takes to pull out your makerpen, lag you experience, and player avatar glitches (wrong LOD, players teleporting everywhere).
As a player, I noticed that using my watch in R2 specifically sometimes doesn’t load. Player usernames don’t load in, and I’m unable to mute, block, or friend anyone. Even when I pull up the store, nothing loads in.
RIO isn’t confusing to me, and I actually like the freedom I have with it.
After a number of crashes, restore-from-backup, and lost work, we found a dev/save cycle that had best results: Have everyone leave room except one person who keeps maker pen out. Coordinate on discord for “are they back to their dorm and able to move in their dorm” (i.e. fully out of the room). Recolor a box (in the main area, used as our “version #”) so we can see if we get the right save version on load. Do NOT drop maker pen (that will crash). Save the room. (take off headset, set aside gently, wander off, get a drink, use the facilities, socialize on discord, eventually the room saves and screen comes back). Verify the box color. Peer around the room to see if things seem good. Jump to dorm. Reboot device. Go in room, verify box color, verify circuits have loaded and are working. Coordinate on discord to get into a new private instance to keep working.
Every single save. Any other save path had a high probability of a crash and would take longer to restore and redo. 15 or 20 minutes to save and get back to editing.
The amount of time spent redoing things because of collision/objects shifting. Notably: Buttons next to a wall - some loads (seems to haunt public instances over private), the buttons are stuck in a collision and cannot be pressed at all. Other loads, they are fine. This with no saves between loads. I moved buttons as far from the wall as possible (multiple times) while still keeping it “ok to look at, if not good anymore”. I moved the walls several times (to reset the collision points). I resized walls. I moved a bunch of decoration-only things to align with the collision walls (because somehow that got randomly askew). Now go back and re-read my above save-cycle comment. 10 times. Just for collisions and trying to keep the buttons pressable. This can be summarized to “is this save going to work or not; flip a coin”.
Please tell @Carthage thank you from our team for saving our room when the circuits disappeared entirely. Give him a raise and a bonus and a paid cruise to the Bahamas.
The biggest bug I have with rooms 2 is probably animation problems. I don’t know how to describe it, but it’s all over the place.
The things I hate about it are definitely the hierarchy and the way that circuits go in stuff now. The hierarchy is just not ready yet and it’s super annoying that you can’t move stuff around just on that menu, but you have to go in the room, find the objects, and then parent them there. It’s very annoying and there should be an option to just turn it off in rooms 2. Then I would use it! Next, the circuits going inside of things. It’s just so much more complex for basically no reason. Rooms 1 is just so much better and easier to use with circuits. These are the 2 reasons I don’t use rooms 2 until these are fixed. I feel like rooms 2 should not be the one you guys are trying to bring out. If people like rooms 1, just back to rooms 1! 90% of the community doesn’t use rooms 2 anyway.
I have two main frustrations/bugs. Number one is that whenever you have a few circuits in a room when you pull your maker pen out there is a huge lag spike that lasts up to 30s; I personally don’t know why this is even a bug as this literally never happened in rooms v1. Number two is that sometimes when you delete an object it wont show as deleted to another player in the room, if this happens and you save it will corrupt the entire room and you will crash out of rec room entirely and there is nothing you can do abt it unless you get lucky and saved that obj as an invention and are able to delete it through the despawn invention page. On a side note, I absolutely love rooms v2 but since it is so buggy would never work in it unless I am forced to like in the contest (which I don’t think you should be forced to do). Rooms v2 is also really buggy when you add a lot of circuits.
Hmm there’s not really much I can say about Rooms 2.0 that hasn’t been already been stated above by my fellow creators but I do want to ask one question on something that confuses me, with all the money & resources Rec Room has managed to accumulate over the years why is basic performance still a major issue with these rooms?? Like I understand the accasional bug here & there but it’s literally a HUGE factor on why most people don’t use Rooms 2.0? The question may be expose my ignorance on the subject matter but I’m just very curious on why this has stretched out soo long as an issue.
So, on our map, the first room disappeared completely after release, and you now start from the second subroom. Which is annoying, of course, because that was the lobby (home). Two weeks of intensive construction were wasted for this room.
Many people get stuck in the loading room. They can hear you and you can hear them, but they don’t fully load into the room.
These people play VR standalone, VR PC, or PC, so it doesn’t matter what device you play on; it often doesn’t work, and we can only accommodate a maximum of 6 people in a room.
Offering Room 2.0 as an unlimited ink room is ridiculous, because I can get more objects into Room 1.0 with the maker pens than in Room 2.0, and it loaded normally.
Our room is: Utopia_of_Lights2025
We also wanted to check out other contest rooms during the game phase, but 80% of the rooms we wanted to check out either took forever to load, causing a timeout and sending you back to your dorm, or they worked, but everything was laggy and you just get a headache when you’re in them. That’s a real shame, because the developers really put a lot of effort and hard work into them.
By the way, I play on Steam VR.
Sadly we too have experienced many of the bugs, still as of yesterday..
-animations were broken
-the players zoom round the map, charging backwards and forwards
-surrounding walls and items disappearing
-constant freezing and glitching
-people cant actually join you in game without crashing all
-we wanted to have 6/8 people capacity , but we pushed it to 4, and even then it struggles with just 2
-makerpen freezes all for about 5/10 secs and sometimes room crashes players
We reduced the amount of chips which means we compromised on our build just so we had something to show for the contest
I sympathise with the judges and the contesters as the R2 performance is already testing, so to have a fair outcome with performance results is not going to be fun, as everyone who lasted this process deserves a medal.. as it wasn’t an easy gig!
That being said it hasn’t gone unnoticed that there is lots of trying, and know once the bugs get ironed out R2 will be worth it!
Going forward I’m hoping those who have participated in this contest is respectful of each others builds as we all know 1st hand it hasn’t been ideal!
A PC that can play Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra is lagging on RecRoom when 1 rotator is moving an object with 2 or more players in the room and you’re not the authority of the rotator. (everyone expect the rotator authority gets fps drops)
Then the grabbing or dropping a maker pen lags? Not just for the player grabbing and dropping, everybody in the room lags…
Finally, being in a room long enough to pile up just enough memory leaks, that the replicator bugs out and starts eating up memory super fast?
There just needs to be more notifications and alerts about what’s going on. Back to your dorm room at random and you’re forced to do a process of elimination, did my Internet have a hiccup, did what I just do break the game and send me back, did I save or is the auto save going to save me this time? There’s no message, either a stopped responding window or a loading screen right back to my dorm room with no warning or notification. Maybe notifications from the RecRoom app itself letting users know their device is using tons of memory and offer a bug report button on the spot to help RR devs diagnose that.
It really killed the idea of trying to have the room be alive and active for the contest, stuck with having to not use animation controllers or rotators because of the performance and FPS drops
All HUDs are broken for vr players. I was working on my game and noticed I couldn’t see my hud I made. So I logged into my second account and it worked fine, so I went to MITM, and surprise surprise, my hud was gone. I asked my friend if his was gone( he plays on quest 2) and said his was fine.( I play on quest 3s.)
Thanks for the report! Can you go into more detail on these?
What was broken specifically with animations for example?
Do you any video we can look at of players zooming around the map? Or of the walls and items disappearing? The more detailed the report or the more visuals you have of what was going on the more it will help us track down these issues.
Mostly performance. The Watch dosen’t or barely works in Rooms2, and the Maker Pen has been lagging my Quest 2 headset and other devices a lot (Except for a powerful iPad). Another thing is the “Consumables”. It is not as easy or easier to use “consumables” in Rooms2. I would like Rooms1 tools and props (Including costume dummies and the Mirror) in Rooms2. Also, The holotars come with more customizable features but are now harder to use than in Rooms1.
Another thing is I enjoy how it is possible to use RR Studio Assets in Rooms2 freely now, including saving them as inventions, but I have encountered a big rock-in-the-road. I would like to be able to convert Rooms1 rooms (Mainly RR Studio Rooms1) to Rooms2.
This is merely a suggestion, but now that Rec Room is messing with AI stuff now, they might be interested in this. I would enjoy having a natural Text-To-Speech system inside the rooms2 rooms. Perhaps the voices could be Coach, The famous Andy Snarhol from Sketchy Showdown, maybe royalty-free voices, and what would really be helpful is to clone your own voice or maybe integrate a Voice Creator (You could make a unique voice by messing with different options and sliders.)
One last thing, which has frustrated me throughout my whole time in Rec Room:
I am a music creator, and I have been wanting to upload my music to Rec Room. However I do not have the tools to do so: Rec Rom’s microphone system does stuff with the microphone which dosen’t make the output sound like it should. I also cannot run Rec Room Studio on a old 2015 MacBook Air laptop with Bootcamp Windows 10 on it because it is way too slow. If there was an option to upload an audio file, perhaps run it through a checker to make sure it does not contain anything not suitable for the kiddos on Rec Rom, then add it to an audio constant in one of your rooms, that would be great!
Hey there, no problem.. I’m now back from a little break so I’ll snoop on head set, I know we had a fair few issues like many. I’m hoping with all the feedback R2 will be what we’re all needing, it’s got great potential.. but also not crazy to not know everything has a transition time! Baby steps and all that jazz!
Phoenix!
There is an issue in Rooms 2.0 where if a player becomes the Room Authority, any player entering the room will see the Room Authority player as stuck, while the Room Authority player can still see others moving normally. This happens only when a player becomes the Room Authority.
Also, if the Room Authority changes at certain moments, there is a frame drop for all players in the room.
Additionally, I noticed something else: when I grab the Maker Pen, set it to the Tool Select mode, and point at multiple buildings I’ve created, the network latency increases. I’m not sure what the relation is, but I hope this can be fixed as well.
Yeah, we experienced the same issue where one of the players appeared frozen to us, even though he was moving normally on his side. From what we observed, the person facing this problem is most likely the Room Authority.
