Hey everyone,
So with the recent news about the layoffs, I just wanted to share my take on everything and where I think Rec Room should focus next.
First off, yeah it sucks. Nobody likes seeing talented people lose their jobs, especially folks who’ve done so much for the game. But at the same time, I think this was a smart business move in the long run.
The blog posts explained it pretty well:
-
It wasn’t about performance or talent, it was about keeping Rec Room financially stable.
-
They made sure people who were laid off got a good severance package, which I respect.
-
This was done so Rec Room can stick around and keep growing instead of burning out completely.
As sad as it is, I’m glad to finally see some activity and decisions being made. Hopefully, this gives the game a clearer direction moving forward.
Bring The Culture Back To Rec Room
Something I really want to see is Rec Room bringing back that classic culture we had around 2018-2022. Back then, there was this energy to the game:
-
Nightclubs and cool social hangouts
-
Big community gatherings and fun events
-
A mix of players of all ages doing their thing and just vibing together
It wasn’t just about games or quests — it felt like an actual virtual community. Lately, it’s felt a bit too kid-focused, which kinda pushes away older players who just want a chill space to hang out.
Make It Fun for Everyone
I think Rec Room should keep doing age ratings for rooms like they do now, but maybe add a mature version of the game where adults can have their own spaces with a little more freedom.
Stuff like:
-
Looser voice moderation for 18+ rooms
-
Letting older players host events, parties, and clubs without worrying about getting hit with random reports
-
Giving adults a reason to stay and create like they used to
It’d help balance things out so the game isn’t just for kids, but truly for everyone, which was the whole point of Rec Room to begin with.
I’m hopeful this restructure can get things back on track. I’d love to see Rec Room return to that golden era vibe while still moving forward as a platform.
