rec rooms updates are ruining the game the new rros are just straight up new gen the staff just works on cv2 and studio but the old ones like golden thropy was basic fun it was more simple and more fun but the new ones are cv2 new stuf are just strange movements or new guns that are buggy like showdown and the new ones are also laggy becouse of the many stuff and studio obejts the old ones were made so that it dosent lag much like the quests the doors nd the community isnt happy with the bean bodys and when playing on quest you cant listen to music and that just sucks the most of the servers are empty or just boring becouse of the lack off stufs to do so rec room if you hear me please fix it

couldnt agree more. not enough community feed back. people are just accepting whats happening but have no actual opinion on it. like the post i made about removing the old been. rec room has a community that doesnt complain. filling lobbies with screen mode players because there arnt enough vr players. the game is truly over

On Steam, which is a very small subset of the player base, there is no sign that the game is dying. There was a weird 300% peak during winter 2022, but if you ignore that, the player base has been growing slowly since release until about 3 years ago, and would have been around the same average since then.

Edit : Small update as of June 2025, seems like there was a small decline :frowning:

Very true, I think Rec Room Is losing players, & i am probably gonna be one of em, I got bored of this game because it does not feel as fun anymore, the only reason I’m still playing is because i want to see how popular i can get.

As far as I know rec room has a bunch of those 2018-2022 players still around but as you can see rec rooms updates have been literal trash. With full body, new bean avatar, the bugged new watch, and the clothing items, and don’t get me started on the new games, it’s all sprunki and brainrot. Tbh I feel like rec rooms laying off the other gens and leaving the game to the new ones such as gen beta and gen alpha( the young ones ) and this game is filled with toxic 10 year olds. I miss the old rec room and the old community

Only way to have fun, playing old RROs.
I tried and I get a lot of fun.

I think some people overlook that rec room is giving a person that has a creative mind a way to create an experience that would be quite difficult to do otherwise. I’ve always wanted to tell a story through a VR experience and even though it’s still in development, I’ve enjoyed every minute working on an rpg for almost 2 years now as a solo creator. And now that I know how much work really goes into creating a game, I’ve learned to respect the work that other people have put into their games. Some games are good and some aren’t so good but I think that the fact that we have been given so many tools at no cost to us is really an amazing gift that doesn’t seem to be as appreciated as it should be. And as people gain skills, the ones that actually put the time into developing them, better games and experiences will start emerging.

So I think some players will leave and that’s fine. There are a lot of amazing games out there to play. Maybe some will come back at some point.

The majority of the people who complain about the state of the game never have and never will create on the platform.

There are 3 main subsets of Rec Room players.

  • “OG” play style

These are the players that mainly play the game for challenges, RROs and PvP (not just “OGs” play this way, just meant to highlight that many of these players will label themselves as an “OG”)

  • Social play style

These are the players that spend most of their time on the game hopping events, public instances, and socializing with others. From what I have seen this is currently the most common play style on the platform.

  • Creator play style

10% of the playerbase, who like creating experiences or content for other players to enjoy. Currently the backbone of the game, as Rec Room moves away from creating their own original experiences, that responsibility has fallen to creators.

I personally fall under the second and third category, a couple years ago I would have said all 3 but admittedly the “OG” play style isn’t as fun as it used to be.

As for if the game is “dying” I think there are other explanations. The game saw a massive spike in popularity during the initial COVID outbreak, when many countries had shelter in place orders, and IRL socialization wasn’t easy. Since then, there has been a continuous decline in player count, with spikes during school breaks (Spring, Summer, Winter break).

The player count is still much higher than it was pre-COVID, due in large part to increased accessibility to the platform, like mobile and Switch.

Okay, most of yall have got it all wrong

People blame everything bad that happens on RR Staff, and while i cannot say that the staff isn’t partly responsible, these problems mainly fallon the community

As said by @Jacko in a previous comment, player do need to respond more. But what we do NOT need is more negative comments. I have seen RR Official posts about stuff the community rejects, and they go mad yellin at RR for doing it and stuff, without actually giving any reason to not do it besides “i dont like this curse you rec room you gonna destroy rec room”. While if RR fixes a bug or does something people asked for then theres MAYBE 1-2 people who go “nice” or “cool”. People need to start giving POSITIVE comments about things, stop being all “youre destroying rec room i hate you”, AND if you don’t like something they do, then give valid reasons why it should not happen.

People complain about Rec Room not doing what they want when the people give no REASON to do it

People act super rude to Rec Room and expect them to do their bidding in return, but get angry when RR treats them the same way.

“Don’t give trash and expect gold in return”

And last but not least, people get angry when rec room doesn’t listen to thier ideas, but they don’t listen because it is a very specific order or there is no reason to do it. One of the most wanted things that people rant about is a new RRO quest. but they either make it to specific,(hey yo rr make a quest with a dragon in space that throws knives etc etc etc) or they don’t give any reason. (hey make a quest rr). Or both. The way peope SHOULD ask for it is this;

(open simply, not launching into it right away (AND BE VERY POLITE!); Hey Rec Room, I am would love if you made a new R2 RRO quest. I have a few good reasons about why i should happen.

(VERY GOOD REASONS)
No.1: It would keep the RRO R2 campaign that you guys like doing
No.2: It would be fully cloneable so people can see how to make a quest the way you guys do
And No.3: If you made it with R2, making the monsters completely with pathfinders and replicators, it would not only give new cloneable AI, but teach people how to make their own AI the way they want to in R2!

(last comments) These reasons are why I think it would be good to add a quest like this. Please consider this RR. Thanks!

THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE TYPED OUT.

Please listen to this everybody, RR does not want Rec Room to die any more than you do, almost certainly less, and if everyone works together, we can save Rec Room.
