This is one of 3 posts i’m making about inventions, which i feel haven’t had much love in a good while. This one is about having more control over how we configure and display our inventions.
Inventions should be given a new permission level between “edit and save” and “use only”, called just “can edit” that allows for editing the invention, but still not saving it. It would be available on premium inventions so users can finally tweak and modify paid inventions if the creator wants them to be able to. Without it, it’s really hard to want to sell circuits inventions because if an update breaks them players can’t edit into any circuitboards to fix it. It also makes things like dorm skins far less desirable because if there’s one or two things you don’t like about it, you cannot change it.
Inventions need to be able to have multiple listed creators. Unless it’s leftover stuff from a different menu that they copy-pasted when first making the inventions menu in the 2D UI, it looks like this is already partially implemented. Many creations simply are only possible as a team, but it feels unfair for only one player to get to upload the invention and sell it. We really need to be able to add co-owners to inventions. Perhaps with customisable earnings sharing.
The invention tags (tags you give inventions like #environment #gadget #canrepublish etc) have been given very little love since long before CV2 came out, i think the certified tag was added sometime after then, but that’s all. Rec Room needs to come back around to it and give it a touch-up with some more up-to-date tags. I understand you can give any custom tag to an invention but we need some more default ones like #weapon or circuits or #tool. The auto-applying tags especially i am interested in, like how if you’d make an invention with CV1 chips and gadgets in it, it would automatically give it the “gadget” tag.
