Introducing ^BonkysInferno

You’ve all been having a blast with ^EvergrownPVP - copying and remixing it in all sorts of creative ways. In fact, we’ve had over 1000 rooms copied, with some fun looking spinoffs like ^Flying_Island_Halloween_evergrown!

So…we’re bringing you another exciting copyable game, ^BonkysInferno! Based on the Make it to Midnight environment, this game’s objective is to earn the most points by knocking opponents into lava or past a laser fence with Bonky’s beautiful hammer.

Since this room is copyable, you can grab your Maker Pen to explore all the circuits we used and even reverse-engineer how we set up the gameplay, or add your own props and decorate on top of the existing map. Want to go deeper? Experiment with Rec Room Studio for more customization— allowing you to edit the environment, change the lighting, or add new 3D models to give ^BonkysInferno your unique spin!

If you want to copy and remix the same map without all the lava, you can use our ^MakeItToMidnightRRSTemplate. We’d recommend using Rec Room Studio to edit the scene!

Clarification on what a copyable room is

A copyable room enables the ability to clone the entire experience as your own room, allowing you to remix it on your own! Like any other room you own, you can use your maker pen to add your own props, decorate on top of the existing environment, or edit the circuits to make gameplay mechanics! However, rooms created with Rec Room Studio will typically include objects (typically 3d models or environments) that can only be manipulated or edited with Rec Room Studio.

If you need help or have questions on how to clone, follow this guide.

What went into making ^BonkysInferno?

We took some of the game mechanics from ^EvergrownPVP and iterated on them to create something fresh and fun for this new cloneable game:

  • Collectible System: Players can earn extra points by collecting pickups across the map. We used Circuits to create and respawn these collectibles and Rec Room Studio to give them custom animations, effects, and sounds. You can implement a similar collectible system to offer point bonuses, power-ups, or interactive items that give players more goals and variety in the game!

  • Damage System: We also used Circuits to implement a unique damage system that affects players’ movement as they take hits. You can even use this system to create your own custom mechanics—think weaknesses, power-ups, or other creative twists based on damage values!

  • Bonky’s Hammer Mechanics: We brought Bonky’s Hammer to life using Rec Room Studio, adding glow effects and animations that make every hit visually exciting. With a Circuits-based collision system, each swing feels responsive and powerful. You can use this setup to build your own close-range combat mechanics with a satisfying sense of impact—and try adding custom animations and effects to make your game items stand out even more!

  • Game System: We designed a round system using Circuits that manage round time, player spawns, score tracking, and resetting the game at the end of each match. This framework is adaptable—experiment with it to control game flow in your own projects, easily setting up timed rounds, player respawns, and custom win conditions.

  • HUD/In-Game Display: We adapted the display from ^EvergrownPVP to show players the round time, scores, and collectible feedback. You can use it to track key stats in your own game and keep players informed in real-time.
