How to Create Custom Room Badges in Rec Room Studio

Badges are a powerful way to recognize players, reward achievements, and add prestige to your rooms in Rec Room. While badge creation is currently limited to a select group of creators, this guide walks you through the full process from setting up your badge artwork to awarding badges through Circuits.

If you have access to badges, here’s everything you need to know to get started.

Who Can Create Badges?

Badge creation is currently available to a limited group of verified creators. Access is granted through an experimental feature group. If you’ve been approved, you’ll see the required tools available inside Rec Room Studio. Requirements for accessing badges will change as we expand the features, keep an eye on official channels for the latest updates.

Creating a Room Badge in Rec Room Studio

  1. Open Avatar Items

In Rec Room Studio, navigate to Avatar Items. This is where room badges are created and managed.

2. Organize Your Badge Images

Before creating the badge:

  • Create a new folder in your Project directory
  • Store all badge images you plan to use in this folder

Keeping your assets organized will make iteration much easier later on.

3. Create a New Avatar Item

Then, you’re ready to create your badge:

This tells Rec Room that the item is a badge associated with a specific room.

  1. Configure the Badge
  • Open the Avatar Item Details panel (you may need to drag the Avatar Items panel wider to see it.)
  • Drag and drop your badge image from the Project folder into the item details

5. Save and Publish

  • Click Save to Rec Room
  • Once saved, click Set Live

:tada: That’s it! Your badge is now live and ready to be awarded.

Awarding Badges with Circuits (Advanced)

Badges become even more powerful when combined with Circuits. While access to awarding tools is currently limited, these chips enable dynamic badge systems tied to gameplay, events, or room boosts.

Badge-Related Circuit Chips include:

Badge Constant:

  • Selects a specific room badge
  • Makes that badge available to Circuits logic
  • Only works with badges associated with the current room

Setup Note:

You’ll need the badge’s GUID, which can be found in the admin tools. This GUID is entered when configuring the chip.

Player Has Room Badge:

  • Checks whether a player already owns a specific room badge
  • Useful for gating rewards or preventing duplicate awards

Award Room Badge:

  • Grants the selected badge to a specific player
  • Commonly used after achievements, events, or room boosts

Why Use Badges?

Badges are a lightweight but meaningful way to:

  • Reward player accomplishments
  • Encourage repeat engagement
  • Highlight community contributions to your room
  • Tie recognition to gameplay systems in your game

As badge tooling continues to expand, expect to see even more creative uses across rooms.

Happy building, and let us know your thoughts and questions here in the thread!

Ok,but quick question: how much was like the original size like high and width of the image to make my own badge and the image fits perfect size.

Sorry my English is bad.
