Hierarchy Improvements - Road to R2

We heard your feedback that working in Rooms 2.0 wasn’t always the most intuitive.

So, after testing with a beta group of creators, we’ve updated the hierarchy tools in Rooms 2.0 to make it easier to manage objects in your room.

Hierarchy Tools

We’ve introduced a new Connect Widget to make it easier to build object hierarchies.

You can select the object you want to parent to something else, then drag the Connect Widget to the desired parent to nest the original object.

Or you can click the icon to:

Edit in and out of hierarchies Group or ungroup objects
Add or remove objects from groups Copy & Paste objects across hierarchies

We also updated the Object Widget tool. When selecting any object, a nameplate will appear. You can select the name like a shortcut to the 2D hierarchy menu, or the “…” to access the Quick Action Menu for more options like configure.

Room-Level Shapes

New shapes can now exist directly at the Room Level or within Gizmos, eliminating the need for automatic container creation.

This simplifies the hierarchy structure and gives you more control over how objects are organized.

We’d love to hear your feedback on these updates. Are they useful? What is on the top of your request list? Leave comments on this post.

Also this is still confusing af

makes no sense but glad to see rec room trying to improve.

So I better understand, what is confusing or doesn’t make sense?

Idk, I personally find it understandable, but i see how people may be confused because you can’t directly see the hierarchy at all times like in unity.

hey how do i get the widget watch?
