Hey RecRoom, many artists want these features added that are listed below. I gathered many different Artists thoughts about things they want art-wise from discord, Instagram, and in-game art rooms. The ones that are starred were the most requested by Artists. Do you think this would be a feature in the future? Do you think some could be fixed?
Art Features:
Layers: Allows to separate different elements in your art, changing the order, you can change one layer without others being disturbed, making it easier for artists.
Eye Dropper/Color Picker: Allows artists to grab/click a color on their canvas to use.
Pressure Sensitivity: Helps with how thick or thin a line is. (This was a feature with magic markers during the play test faze but later removed) Now it’s only available to Apple products.
Undo/Redo: This would help with people who grief (Erases someone else art) and help with making a mistake.
Magic Paint Brush: This would be the same as the magic marker (Color menu on the paintbrush)
Different Brush Types: RecRoom has a circle or square brush type, adding more like a spray can, pastels, pencil, pen, marker, etc.
Blending/Smudge Tool: A tool that can blend 2 or more colors.
Transparency/Opacity Slider: This would give artists a way to further detail their work. (Markers, Paint brush, other tools, and layers)
Paint Bucket/Fill Tool: Colors the entire canvas or can fill in a shape drawn.
Grid Toggle: The canvas can have a grid toggle that can appear over top of the canvas without disturbing the actual drawing.
Lasso Tool: Selecting a section on the canvas (Able to color in that selection only or erase or color in that) + deselection tool
Flip Drawing/Canvas: Flips the drawing (helps with looking at proportions)
Symmetrical tool/mirror tool: If you draw on one side it does it on the other side of the canvas
Save Colors: Saves the colors in the marker menu (helpful to artists) - maybe like 30 to 50 slots(?)
Colors: Metallic (gold, silver), neon or glow in the dark colors
Magic Marker is laggy: Lag issues with changing the magic marker color (this has been an issue since it was first dropped) after 30 to 50 color changes the marker lags so much artists only way to fix it is to grab/spawn another marker or save/reload the room.
R2 has no White boards: Whiteboards are one of the better canvas’s in the game currently and are not available in R2. I’ve spoken with someone before about this. The response for why it wasn’t included was because its only available in dorms and the lounge. Then I believe you should take a look at the artists in your game who LOVE to use them. Since there only in R1, Artists haven’t really moved over to R2. We can’t show our work which is disappointing.
How to make theses Art Features happen: I’ve spoken with someone about specifically the canvases in the game currently will not be able to do certain things which makes me believe that some of these feature would be hard to do. I think the best plan of action would be to create a Canvas V2 (Make it to where you can change the canvas size/pixel size). The new canvas would be able to support the feature above. Which means it would most likely just be for R2 but I would consider making it available in R1. The reason for it is because the biggest Art rooms are in R1 and most don’t want to delete or private the room to make a new one. You lose the pictures, the memories, etc., which is kind a annoying to do. But its ultimately yall’s decision. Would this be something that could happen?
