2D Canvas Art needs some love!

I definitely think our 2D art creators need a little more love!

We’ve been working with props (markers, canvases, etc.) that are really outdated, and can get a bit buggy sometimes.

We would love to have a nice, refreshed version of these things, something that nice and easy to use like how the old canvases/markers used to be!

With the addition of full-body, the placement of the marker in your hand is VERY wonky It’s shifted so its no longer comfortable to use with the limited mobility. I don’t ever draw in full-body anymore for this reason hah.

Aside from bugginess, the canvases have been loved for years and I really think the artistic community needs a little love too, not just the builders! :butterfly:

I definitely the top three things our artistic community needs:

-Scalable canvases:

This would allow a creator to make their canvas any size they want, not limited to just two shapes: The square and long rectangle!

  • Undo/Redo option:

If there was any way to have an “undo” option for a canvas, it would be game-breaking for artists, so many times have we made a mistake, and realizing we cant go back and undo, so we’re forced to cover over it and redo all of the previous work, it can be frustrating!

-Blending tool:

I know this would probably be a LONGSHOT of a request, but having a color blending option to our canvases, maybe like a sponge-shape tool similar to the eraser, were it would smudge two+ adjacent colors together would be and incredible thing to have. Imagine the shading possibilities!

I definitely agree that our artists should deserve more than what they have. They put in hours of work and showcase creativity feats like no other.

I’d like to see how a circle, or trapezoid canvas would work, lol. :rofl:

As someone who has been drawing for a super long time, I’d really like to see Rec Room give artists more options when drawing on canvases. I really really love your idea on the layers and blending tool, those would be super useful :purple_heart:

Here’s some ideas I have for Rec Room:

-Size adjustable markers: being able to size the tip of the marker up and down. (As I’ve seen many people struggle to draw small/big lines on a canvas, they would need to scale the board to do so)

-Colour picker: this could be a feature within the Magic Marker, that allows you to colour pick the colours on your canvas, or even any surface.

-Straight lines: can be a feature in the custom markers, where you can create perfectly straight lines on a board.

-Opacity: a setting in your custom marker that allows you to be able to change the opacity of your marker’s lines.

-Built-in eraser inside the Magic Marker: instead of having to switch consistently (especially on screen mode), you could press a button and it become an eraser marker.

-Possible mirror canvas option?: mirroring anything drawn on one side, to the other.

-Circular canvases? Thought those would be pretty cool to see in-game.

-Magic Brushes: have a button placed on the paintbrushes, just like the magic markers. (Saves the hassle of having to re-colour using the makerpen)

-Pressure sensitivity: this is already in the game (on IPad and VR), however it is not compatible with drawing tablets (on pc).

These are just some things I came up with, would love to see any of these considered in the future.

@Molly-Mae These are great detailed features for updates to the canvas and it’s tools!

I would suggest making this post into it’s own topic so these features can get voted on individually!
