I never really support Rec Room, but there won’t be any Rec Room at all unless they can afford themselves!
I’m glad you get to decide that Maker AI creating circuits is a good thing because you aren’t good at them, but generating art and maps is a bad thing
It sure is convenient that when AI generated what YOU get paid for it’s bad, but when it generates what you’re bad at, it’s good
Grow up.
they’re stuck in this situation in the first place because they decided to help their slop creators bring in money. their only way of getting out of this is making amends with everyone they’ve wronged
I don’t think Rec Room is begging? They want to make RR+ worth the money by adding new features or improving the ones they have now. Other games of Rec Room’s size have better monetization strategies, which make them sustainable and allow them to do things that players want.
The biggest way Rec Room could become more sustainable is by encouraging more people to invest in it, like through RR+. I think Rec Room is trying their best to keep players happy, but some players have contradicting wants and desires—like keeping the old bean body while others wanting more avatar customization. The old bean body wasn’t designed for more dramatic customization, so switching back would be unreasonable when the new bean body has so much potential. Many games, like The Sims and Animal Crossing, have excellent and quirky customization, and that’s a big reason people love playing them. Rec room is doing their best to do the same.
Rec Room can’t accomplish what they want without funding or engagement for different features. They’re focusing on things that will improve the game for the long run. As players, it’s our choice to support these changes or share our opinions ( good or bad) about them so Rec Room can improve for everyone.
I am not a fan of releasing ideas or concepts that Rec Room staff want to implement for all players to see, especially if they haven’t planed for it yet. Surveys are meant to gauge players’ and creators’ interests in a controlled setting. They also help manage expectations for new features while also seeing if a feature is worth doing. They have to plan ahead for certain features and can’t do things on a whim like they did before—they’re bigger now, and more people are relying on them. They need to know if features has player support before they can even start planning.
I do think they should generate more hype for features they are guaranteed of making. It seems like they only talk about new features or games one or two weeks before it released. Maybe the discord and forum is enough to peak player interest?
Overall, I think the secrecy is to manage players’ expectations so the majority of the players can trust rec room and not get disappointed when something they mention can’t be done.
I’d just want RecRoom to stop being quiet about what they’re making now. For the features RecRoom have been releasing lately, I feel like they hadn’t asked their community or playerbase one bit. Makerpen AI came out of nowhere, widget watch, there was a survey about UI, but it was for how UI looks and styles, not showing the widget watch, RecRoom’s new template copy rooms, CountdownClub and Feeding-Frenzy, don’t think I’ve noticed that players on RecRoom were asking for more copyable template rooms and not RRO’s?
And that two years ago on RecRoom, there hadn’t been any idea on what RecRoom was planning to work on next. However it was an absolute whirlwind of sponsorships and surprize events; Forth Fridays, RecRocks, Destiny, NFL, NBA, Nike, and more. That satisfied peoples crave for adventure to try to be on RecRoom and ready for what new thing was about to come out.
They’re still trying to feel like they’re releasing new things as of lately, but only lately feels like it’s just another watch store row or a storefront room for UGC clothing items or that it’s RecRoom trying to showcase their new Rooms 2.0 feature very harshly when creators still feel like it’s still unstable and buggy.
If it was really true that RecRoom was releasing features based on surveys or community feedback, why can’t they release the numbers like they released the numbers that ‘weeklys aren’t sustainable’. Widget Watch was released because of xyz and the style because of our latest Research Lab survey (sign up here to give us your feedback too!) etc. Makerpen AI was released since our users on Research Lab had said they’d love to have more ways to create with chatgpt style like commands!
Instead so far, it feels like RecRoom is doing what they want and the community feels left behind, ignored, and ready to just quit the game.
Now I have no clue how to run a business or anything, but why not just redirect yalls target audience to be older instead of dumping money into advertisements meant for literal children. I’m sure if you had a older player base it would be easier to make money… Because they have money to spend…
On a separate note, i know this has been said thousands of times, and me saying it wont do anything. But maybe, just maybe, listen to the community for ONCE.
I think they’re a bit too late now lol. The community has been voicing their opinions for years. If they listened for once maybe people would have gotten RR+ by themselves and they would not have had to post this article to beg for money. They’ve had too many chances already. There’s no hope.
The features I mentioned are already intended to get added… and I don’t want them to just remove everything I think that AI created maps would look… trash and honestly I’d really only ever use it for filming
Recroom wants more creators, and maker ai isn’t a tool that will create good rooms. It will create cash grabs and it doesn’t look like Recroom will realize this until it’s out.
Also yes I did mention things I’d like to have because it’s my opinion your opinion is valid too. Creators get paid to create good things. Yet maker AI probably will never create good things
I suggest higher level technical/moderation support for paid customers.
If someone paying money gets banned they should be able to talk to a person. A person that considers evidence. If I pay several $100 to RecRoom buying gear and investing in my presence, I don’t want to be at the mercy of a random level 9 with a throwaway account filing false reports.
I do feel the frustration. It does feel like there aren’t any big changes, or the changes Rec Room has made just introduced bugs or features that feel like they came out of left field. I do think they’ve made quicker or maybe impulsive decisions because their financial situation.
One thing that has been constant for the past year or so has been Rooms 2. From what I hear from staff members, Rooms 2 is going to allow creators to do more in rooms—something I know most creators want to happen. But Rooms 2 wasn’t ready when they released it. Which delayed updates they wanted for the game. Also it made creators very frustrated and questioned Rec Room discissions.
For, cloneable rooms I believed they made them to show creators what’s possible with Rooms 2 and to demonstrate that they can build games in it. So a sign of encouragement or starting point to use the new room.
I do think Rec Room is facing some growing pains, and it’s making players and creators upset. I know the staff members want what’s best for Rec Room, and it can be a bit demoralizing for them when players are upset with the game. Maybe having more statistics about new features and setting reasonable expectations on what to expect for Rec Room, or even outlining a roadmap, could help. I do agree there is a disconnect between Rec Room staff and Rec Room players. I think having more forum posts like this one is a step in the right direction.
A major problem is sometimes, rr+, now at 6500 a month, isn’t even enough for 1 singular item. That’s ridiculous, as it makes most players not even try in the first place.
I have a lot of issues with this. Number 1: Every company needs money, not surprising.
Number 2: Maybe listen to the player base and they’ll actually pay? You’re losing the ones that would spend money, the originals, you’ve changed the game so much.
Number 3: Those layoffs included some of the best ones, meanwhile kept those that are, let’s say less than superb.
Number 4: Here’s some things y’all can do differently, work on moderation, some of the biggest names are.. let’s just say not giving it their rec room best. Also keep your style, you’re trying so hard to use other games ideas. The mix of avatar studio and Rec Room studio literally remove the games style.. the one thing y’all had. Now the game looks completely different. Everyone is flocking to VRC because that’s what y’all are trying to do.. but that’s not what you should be doing. The game looks unrecognizable. You’ve created a entirely different game, everyone knows maker AI was just to get investors hooked and this proves that.
If you want us to spend money on your game, then you should listen to the feedback we give!
Maker AI:
We want Maker AI GONE, yet it’s still being developed and no one wants it except the developers themselves. The Ai Art, and generative ai aspect of it are turning off people’s interest, yet you are still continuing with it. The main reason I cancelled my rr+ in the first place is because of maker ai, I don’t want to profit it.
RecRoom Plus:
Players have been wanting more in recroom plus, it isn’t worth the money and the only reason some people even have it is because they have ongoing popular games. It’s been years since 2021, when the game was at it’s peak, yet I haven’t noticed any changes to recroom plus besides the custom shirts. After that we haven’t been given anything. The tokens we get from recroom plus barely even give us access to some of the more expensive items. The only good thing about recroom plus is the outfit slots, earning money/tokens, and custom shirts, this is clearly outdated. If I am not clear enough, I suggest reading Nixx’s second point on how it needs more value.
Investors>Community Problem:
It has been obvious for quite awhile now, the dev team no longer cares about what the players want ever since they first stopped listening to us. Maker AI is no doubt made for the investors, rather then the players, yet they claim its for the future of recroom, but how many times have we heard this, and how many times have player said we don’t want it?
Listening To The Community:
We know you have seen our messages and videos about what recroom can do to fix it’s game, yet it doesn’t happen? We keep being told you guys ARE listening, but you aren’t? It’s like zoning out while someone is talking.
Player Events:
Player Events by no doubt brought in an insane amount of players, and kept them active. Ever since Rec Con and Rec Rocks, I haven’t heard of anything. We need to bring those back stat, another Rec Rocks concert would be amazing, or another concert like the Ethan bortnick pron, where we also got a cool shirt!
Lastly, the only reason your game is dying is because you aren’t listening to what the community wants whatsoever. You aren’t getting a drop of our money if you don’t listen!
Part of building a sustainable model is ensuring players have a safe, positive experience. If your business model is built on a straw-man count of alt accounts created by kick/ban evaders, that may account for why the numbers look so glum. I know one ban evader in a community game who boasted of making 60 alts to kick evade in a single weekend (and he’s been doing this for a while), so of course financial models will fumble and continue to be inaccurate if they’re relying on data from dubious accounts like that.
Here’s what could drastically improve player experience, safety, and your bottom line:
- Put barriers to entry to ensure player accounts are genuine. Quality over quantity. If someone creates a non-Junior account (which gives them access to voice chat and 13+ games), it should—at a minimum—require email verification—preferably by a unique email so 50 alt accounts cannot use the same email
- It would also significantly reduce hacker infusion in community games if only RR level 10 or 15+ could play community games. Let’s face it; even authentic players need to start out in the RR originals to get a handle on the controls before “unlocking” community games with looser controls and moderation
- If you had a way to better protect players with encryption and mask IP addresses within the app to reduce the rampant doxing and DDOSing that’s going on, that would be worth signing up for. Long-term players are having to redirect cash to deploy outside safety features—like VPNs—because your system is woefully easy to hack
Bottom line: stop majoring on the minors. Forget the crazy hairstyles and noses—players want safety and a positive experience. Nintendo people aren’t playing Mario because the characters look like them. Part of the gaming world is fantasy and imaging yourself to be a character not identical to you. And please feel free to share this with your stockholders, because I think they’d really love to hear it.
RR+ isn’t the way to go about it, imo. Just better, more original content that’s engaging.
Very true RR has dropped a lot since these changes.
If they don’t fix these then they might turn into THQ 2.0
Is this a damn joke?
Like for real rec room? You want Us the Players who Play to “help you out”
Your like a roommate who never pays back, you give nothing to the community that has any worth, and you just expect us to pay up like you deserve it? WHAT A JOKE!
Let me break it down,
the community moderation Sucks, i cant go into a public room without hearing a slur or five get tossed around while i get mic banned for saying “whats good bro”,
The r2 building is garbage, so garbage that i have to beg rrs players to help me. Short answer is they’re to snotty to ever help a guy whos so poor they cant afford fast food.
And lets talk about that, the poor community, the ones who play your game as a comfort in there world of no food for half a week, your telling that side of the community to pay for a crap membership thats only perpose is to give players more tokens and maybe a special item,
And on that note, you guys have no clue what the community actually wants, or whats best for them, i get it, we need money, we need to survive, but that doesn’t mean to look at everyone and act like your the victim, YOU’RE THE ONES WHO MAKE THE GAME so its not hard to just, give the Good Community, What they want,
Like we have said it sense 2020, we want the basics of basics, just more rro that are Good and not slop, we want more tools to be more creative, we want more ways to be social, And the most importantly We Want Better Moderation And Care,
This game has alot of problems, but they can be fixed, its not hard, and for once in your lives, please just listen to the community.
Ps i looked into how unity works, its not hard, if i had the funds id make my own games instead of relying on your joke of a game to make games
Yea AI is gonna ruin rooms now, we aren’t gonna get thumbnails that have had time and effort put into them. And we might just get every simulator game to be the same. Every roleplay game to be the same, you name them.
They need to listen to us indeed, That’s how Team Fortress 2 didn’t get finished by bots or mic spammers, you still get them, but now they are rare.
They only care about the bigger developers (Like Rauz) and some person I know has been permanently banned just because some players mass reported them and the RR mods said they couldn’t relift the ban. (YouTube have recently been guilty of this yet come up with the same excuse)
- Reopenings 5.4.25
Put the fries in the Bucket just admit you want money end of story.
