Building a Sustainable Rec Room

You guys don’t get enough credit. I don’t agree with a lot of what you do, especially when it comes to creation, but if you’re struggling, I don’t see an issue with trying to earn more revenue. It’s just how you go about it that shapes how players see it. Good luck, I hope Rec Room sticks around since I see it as a good place for creativity and building. You have to keep the business running before you can focus on improving the game to and extreme level.

Being aggressive surely wont help!

If people don’t pay, Rec Room won’t be around at all, and they can’t listen to the community if the game doesn’t exist. It’s a cycle, they need to sustain themselves before they can focus on “fixing the game.”

It’s really the truth. What is RecRoom working so hard on that we’ve never heard anything for awhile since their last RRO or community contests? Was it really nothing and everybody just talking to each other day after day till something changed?

Probably should immediately start a strawpoll/discord poll/vote/ANYTHING, and ask their whole userbase on what they should work on next then… Once their community sees them release a new feature that everybody wants now in less than 3 months, then maybe things may turn around. So far, it’s only what the investors of RecRoom want as they think they’ll make them money or that it feels like that.

Why are you defending them? Sure they do need money to be able to work on the game and make it better. But why did they spend the last like 4-5 years working on things no one wants? That’s wasting the money they did have, which they could have spent on fixing the game. Why would we trust them with our money now?

Only a few of these points, maybe even none are right. it’s just you saying what you want to hear. Let me tell you some advice that I had learned myself purely on common sense, which, no offense, seems minimal these days. You’re slowly digging yourself down, and as a consequence of your actions, you’re diggin’ the rest of us down. What I have to say is heavy, now listen.

  1. Make RR+ REALLY feel like a +
What can a player get out of RR+ that makes them feel a bit more valued, especially if what they’re paying for can possibly be a detriment to their personal finance? Weekly tokens is fine, seasonal and weekly cosmetics are alright, but that’s a little value. What would a player want from a subscription that passes itself off over and over again as the top tier choice?

  2. The Creative Community is In Shambles
I love the creative community, alright? But it’s given it’s current state, there’s nothing to love. With the inclusion of Maker AI and the AI Art as a general whole (AI Art is literally a threat to the creative community as we know it.) What’s the point of a talented creator to work their bum off for several hours, but end up being shunned by EnergeticWolf1735 in a contest? I don’t want to see my projects being stuck in a shadow because ^EscapeEDP445 is more popular than a game that has been given several months of time, effort, and some probably lost some sleep so they can rush their next big idea. Can someone vouch for me?

  3. Think of what WE want.
I’ve been starting to notice that the developers have been pushing out these posts, with the motive of telling us what WE want for them. But really, I think the developers are only pushing out the updates THEY want, not what WE want. I may be wrong, but it’s apparent to me.

  4. Do y’all even give a darn about yo’ people?
Does Rec Room give a darn about us anymore? Are they just doing things and expecting us to be happy with it? Many rectubers abandoned this game, and many more may soon follow. Does Rec Room care?

  5. Final Words

I know nothing about running a game, but one thing is clear to me.

if you’re gonna update your game, think about what the PEOPLE want, not what YOU want. If this game fails to stay strong in the coming years, who knows what will happen to the community we built so long ago?

I like the transparency on this. Rec Room is a free multiplayer game that gives out free tokens to players. And players can cash out? I always wonder how Rec Room manages to do this, but it surprised me to learn they’re not profitable.

I love the steps being taken to make RR+ more worthwhile. I hope to see premium avatar features and maybe some social tools that players would enjoy using. I would love to see Rec Room hyping up RR+ to make it the obvious choice for long-term players (without in-your-face ads).

I really want Rec Room to be sustainable for the long term. It’s been a place where I can release my creativity and meet amazing people! I’d love for more players, now and in the future, to experience it.:sparkling_heart:

tbh, the state rec room’s in actually makes me sad, i’m not saying this as a toxic way i’m saying how its makes me really sad that this game i’ve known and been playing since 2020 gone downhill like this. this game is mostly where i met most of my friends in. i hope this game gets better soon..

you’re begging for money and yet you can’t listen to the community? ignorance at it’s peak.

Alright, I’m back with something people currently dislike… and it’s not even a feature yet.

Maker AI.
So Maker AI is hopefully going to be out soon :trade_mark:… starting off in the dorm (and with Recroom Plus users first, I’m pretty sure), and I’d like it to be exclusive to Recroom Plus members… I think if a player wants to try it out, they can go to a testing room and mess around with it for 30 minutes. (Like what the video partners have now but with a time limit.) I don’t know how expensive it will be to run Maker AI… hopefully it’s cheap enough to bundle into Recroom Plus… if possibly more expensive… it could be a second subscription entirely… or an add-on for Recroom Plus itself.
Say… it’s 5.99 on its own, but if you were to add it onto Recroom Plus, it would only cost 2.99 … and then players who only want the AI can get it.. I guess?

I don’t know if this even matters, so I’m going to end it here. I have nothing else to talk about for Maker AI

LETS MOVE ON TO MORE Rec Room+ FEATURES!!!
Optional testing
like split tests but exclusive and it’s opt-in. So let’s say you have something you want to add (for all players) but you need the kinks worked out. Asking Recroom Plus members if they’d like to opt in could help let’s use full body tracking as an example (if you’re in the Discord, you know why I’m using FBT, as an example).

So I am a Recroom Plus member and I go onto the Discord and there’s a new channel saying opt-in split test. Whatever you want to call it, I go in. I look through the optional split tests, which probably would only be one at a time. I see full body tracking and I opt in. I go around in the rec center testing it for you guys, giving feedback possibly in another channel related to a full body tracking people point out like, “Hey, how did you get that?” and I say, “Oh, it’s on Recroom Plus, you can opt in for it.” And then they go buy Recroom Plus because they want full body tracking or another feature.

Keep in mind I expect that this feature wouldn’t be fully incorporated. It would be very buggy. It’d be like testing a brand new software that’s not released to the public, maybe kinda like an iOS beta or something.

Uhh yeah that’s me talking about maker AI and Opt in beta testing for RR+ members

new bean is literally better then older bean :sob::wilted_flower:

new quest ( last quest since 2018 )
new paintball map ( last paintball map since 2020 )
or rec royale season 2 ( released in 2018 with no further updates, also really dead rn )

if any of these happen i’ll buy rr+ for an entire year whenever one pf those releases ( it ain’t happening :wilted_flower: ) :sob::fire:

I’ll say this too.
I LIKE MAKER AI. I LIKE AI ITSELF.
I think it’s fine. I think it’s useful, but some aspects of it definitely need to be moderated in a certain way.

AI image creation is something I do NOT want inside of recroom. I do not want that to be a feature of Maker AI.

currently, Maker AI can really only move, color, and spawn inventions. Nothing else. It’s really “useful”.

I don’t want it to be a feature unless it’s fully done. I don’t want to see any more posts about Maker AI until it’s done.
Until it can use CV2.
Until it can create a map.

And to people who can use circuits YOU SHOULD.
You don’t have to use the AI to create circuits if you know how to use circuits.

With the downfall of classes, Maker AI is a great tool that might be able to teach some players how to use CV2. Personally, I have a few places where I’d use Maker AI, like creating a set to film on. To use CV2 to create a simple animation. Or something like that.

I know it could be used to create trash and bad games… but locking it behind Recroom Plus should be the way to go, as then players will hopefully be inclined to strive for excellence in game design and development too!

People are unhappy with the games new vision,
People are unhappy with recent decisions,
People are unhappy with how their feedback is getting ignored,
People are unhappy with the predictable mistakes that you keep making.

So tell me, why should people give you their hard earned “just frappuccino money” if this is all you have to offer? Because you’re begging? Because you feel entitled? You continue to believe that you’re in the right when everyone else is telling you otherwise, and when things actually go downhill it’s suddenly the players fault for not spending enough? This is getting tiring

I want you to understand that this (see above) is what staff is telling US the PLAYERS… and the rest was sent to the RecRoom team.
Nick is asking the RecRoom team to continue to create new features for RR+ so…

they can get more players to spend money on the game
And I understand that sounds very greedy but it’s not. What Recroom has shown us here is that they don’t want to impress investors… they want to impress us they want us to agree that giving them are coffee money every month is a good investment into a game players will enjoy…

And to Recroom staff you have so much SO MUCH on your plates… and more is coming and I need you guys to understand that if you don’t start talking to us on why you can’t do certain things people will continue to be angry. Continue to quit. And continue to talk (bad word)

RR+ Needs to Contribute more to players than creators since its already a no brainer for people who are creators, but i feel as if players only subscribe because of the outrageously priced items so that they can actually afford them.

Send people of your staff team to look and see what exactly people are saying.

And at the very least, Acknowledge the details and show proof of concept to make Your players that subscribe to Your service Feel better knowing that the value is worthwhile.

I completely agree with the generative AI drawings, also did you know you can generate Inappropriate images with it in a “kid’s game” additionally there is 0 way to catch the person that made it if it was created on a public build map and no one saw it being created and I’m pretty sure they have basically 0 moderation for it

Here’s a forum I posted about this topic

There is zero reason to buy anything in Rec Room after a certain point/level.

The only reason to buy RR+ is for making tokens off of games, and then again with the amount of people that make actual games and make nothing is pretty high so they give up on making money and stop buying RR+, or they only buy RR+ when they have tokens waiting to be claimed.

Monitizing RR+ better won’t work because non creators will buy it for 1 month and relize its not worth the money and creators will buy it only when needed.

Also, try listening to your community, I get game dev is hard but you add these features no one asked for and then take MONTHS to release a bug fix for one thing (cough object proporties cough). We’re honestly tired of the bullshit and have no reason or want to support this game with are wallets.
