Better Age Verification

Hey, so it has become a clear problem with the younger audience on this game lying about their ages. Every popular room is swarmed with little kids, who aren’t on junior accounts. I’m not saying it should be as strict as Roblox, but improvement needs to come asap.

One idea I had is maybe a simple test like those “Are you a bot?” verifications on other platforms. Matching images, converting numbers to words (32 —> thirty two), etc.

I don’t really have many ideas as to exactly what, but please respond with some!

I do really think they should upgrade their voice moderation to assume if someone is underage. Considering how accurate it is at detecting and logging bad voice conduct, this seems possible.

There already is a system to unlock your account from being junior, but its 1$

The main issue is the revenue rec room receives from the kids that play, so I’m not sure if we’re seeing this anytime soon. :upside_down_face:

here I would suggest the following, there should be 3 age levels

  1. junior up to 13 years old, all the functions of a junior account.
  2. a regular account, what all players have now.
  3. an adult player, issued after using the studio, that is, if the player is already able to use the studio, competently, then in principle he can be promoted to an adult player.
I will add that the third stage of age automatically attaches the adult badge to the player, and if a teenager somehow pinned it on himself, then rr can safely remove all responsibility for what happens to this player. After all, he himself wanted to go into adulthood early.

Rec room makes no money from that, after you pay the fee to remove junior it gives the money back

That adult thing wouldn’t work because I know many older than 18 players who first don’t even have studio, second aren’t even creators

There are also many younger than 18 who already know how to use Studio pretty well.

There’s no easy way to implement this. Doing it through voice moderation also won’t work at all, your voice don’t suddenly change over night when you turn 13.

if rec room wants to do better with age verification, they should require it for anyone who is over 18, while offering it to 13-17 year olds if they have a State ID or Driver’s License. I know it’s similar to Roblox (and now VRC) but it works well.
