I feel like you hit a lot of good points. I just wanted to add something about creator perception. I also feel like there’s some insecurity from creators when they see the top games holding their spot for a long time or rooms inspired by other games or TV shows. Creators who want to be original have to compete with rooms that already have a larger following simply because of the title or thumbnail referencing another game. I think it’s understandable why some players might choose to make and capitalize on ‘cash-grabby’ games.
Improving creator perception and setting better expectations for the game could encourage players to believe they can make cool and fun games too, especially with proper resources and tips.
I also think that’s why players want more RROs because they want to see high-quality original content rather than fan-made games. I believe having more truly original content made by either players or Rec Room would really help with this perception.
Even if he did that wouldn’t solve the room. Players would go to the next top room. I don’t think anyone should delete or suppress a room because it was popular for a long time.
i get where nick is coming from. but the 1% of the rooms creators getting money has to be false.
there are many photos on rec.net that show people that purposefully use sprunki, TADC, poppy playtime and more IP into their rooms because they know kids will play it. and maybe even spend money on it. if the rooms arent making money for the devs why not have at least one staff member go through hot tab or new tab and take down the rooms.
it shouldn’t take a lot of time for a staff member go into the game ATLEAST on the breaks go and shut down these rooms and the creators profiting off children.
ESPECIALLY SPRUNKI. sprunki was made by a minor who got doxxed, threatened and even ALMOST FALSELY SWATTED BECAUSE HE MADE SPRUNKI. its disgusting that this is done by people who flip children off and just use them for the wallets.
i hope nick will be in the march’s Creator AMA. sure we will have gribbly but having a CEO in the AMA is also the best thing we can ask for. and I really want to talk about them about these rooms that were made just to use kids for money. as many people do.
it sucks at this point that a room that uses IP of indie people fills up people’s moneys when they are on a hot page. meanwhile some of our passion projects which yeah, don’t look good or function well but I’m sure it can be better replacement than whatever these rooms are.
It’s too much of a blanket suggestion for everyone who plays RecRoom instead of the suggestions being ‘for YOU’ suggestion. Imagine you go to Youtube on a new account or not signed in. Is the suggestions everywhere on the website after watching one video suddenly tailored to try to keep you playing more Youtube videos based on your watch history and the last video you watched? Yep… Where’s that on RecRoom?
I know a substantial amount of players are kids on RecRoom, teenagers have to see what’s popular for kids, and the smaller group of the creators on RecRoom have to see what IS popular for the majority of players on RecRoom. There’s no suggestions of what your friends have been playing a lot on, there’s no way to just ‘hide this room from the list for awhile’ so that it’s possible to see something new and fresh.
RecRoom is spending way too much time knowing what the majority of their players on RecRoom play. These players that see the so called ‘slop’ actually do intend to play rooms like that. Why not just keep giving what the kids want to the kids, the teens want to the teens, and the mature userbase, fresh good content. If a kid was to start playing some high quality room, start showing random suggestions about other high quality rooms. Don’t just show everyone the same results because a/b/c said it’s the highest engagement for kids.
RecRoom is too busy forcing us to look at lists they curate, instead of letting us curate the lists, hide rooms I don’t have favor in looking at, let some algorithm learn on ME not on everyone.
