Oh wow, this is really cool! The style of this really does echo Rec Room in a way I’ve never seen before. The outlines around elements gives it a 3D effect, which hopefully will lead to it being 3D in VR. My only issue with those outlines however is that they’re used too much, I personally don’t think they should be around everything in the way they are (for example the backgrounds of the widgets look weird with the inconsistent thickness) and I’m not sure how much I like them around the icons.
I like the idea of this “quick access” panel, but its a kind of confusing name for something that is basically a home menu. I feel to avoid confusion while navigating it should really just be called “Home”. I do also feel like this UI style could do with a few extra splashes of colour, and although I don’t know how it would really work, it should be experimented with. I do also think that the UI could attempt to use the full space of the screen, or perhaps we could have the ability to adjust the layout of the different widgets. This customszation could be joined by the option for a dark theme (maybe other colour styles too? Imagine watch UI skins, that would be cool).
If I were to be nitpicky, I feel the hover effects on the buttons is too choppy and should have some animation, even if quick and subtle. I also feel the backgrounds on outfits should be the same colour as the background as the rest of the buttons; Though to me it looks like a side effect of something else.
As for VR, I would really like if it felt like some sort of hologram coming out of your watch. I feel like this could actually be enforced by applying that sort of hologram-y background from the older UI onto the background of the current one. In my opinion it would sort of enforce the aesthetic of Rec Room. 3D buttons on this UI would be incredible, but it should also be done in a way where it isn’t ugly or an eyesore.
I’m very very excited to see the future of Rec Room and the widget watch, and I hope that this styling can get applied everywhere somewhat quickly. The watch UI is already somewhat inconsistent, I don’t want another layer of inconsistency on top of that. Great work Rec Room!
Well, I’m not gonna judge until I test It out, Its something new that’s for sure but no one asked for this, But If you are doing UI Updates, Please Bring back 2021 Login Screen, Its more Simpler & Better
While this looks neat and all, it seems a bit lacking in content on a single screen.
This may sound stupid, but please at least attempt to understand my point of view (I am a self-taught programmer who is fluent in JS and Python, along with previously knowing QBASIC, VBScript, and Lua – not the Roblox one, mind you).
Being able to modularize your UI’s code base might make it a bit easier to allow having two different UIs for the player base that both function similar but show the same information. This would also allow your dev-only / mod-only branches to be a bit easier to utilize as well – of course, avoid accidentally pushing out these branches with the normal users (#ifdef / etc. is quite useful… assuming such exists for Unity).
Ok looks like a unpopular opinion here but still.
Yeah ill get used to it and deal with it but it doesn’t even look nice its not in the same style. Its definitely not faster than the old UI. For example I was on my portfolio page and I got an invite. Instead of one click to go to notifications from the bar at the bottom its three now. One click on profile Two on the back button and the third finally on notifications. And like what’s even the point of the first tab I don’t need or want to see recommended rooms or party stuff or store stuff just make it one tab.
I really don’t think they should remove it entirely though but I really wish they would make it optional.
Oh and an edit here just realized that I cant even go to my clubhouse I never use my dorm I have a custom clubhouse spawn so that’s just really annoying that I cant fast travel there instead of my dorm.
In my opinion this seems way too much of a hassle to get used to another new watch menu.
you’ve already tried changing the watch’s entire interface like 3 years ago and now we need to get used to another new watch menu, personally i think you should stick to one thing rather than having a bunch of different looking menus since you haven’t even finished converting all the OG 3D watch menus before going to the one we got around 2020 - 2021.
