Hey there guys. I figured I would create this for people that want to provide neat little tips for the newer guys getting into studio.
Feel free to add tips in the reply section!
I’ll go first! You are able to create the illusion of clouds by placing a cloud PNG onto a plane!
Step 1!
Make sure you have selected the perfect Cloud PNG to work with. It must have the transparent alpha effect on the background -the checkers background.
Here’s on I found:
Make sure that the alpha background is real! There is a lot of images that look to have a genuine Alpha background but don’t!
Step 2!
Import cloud into your assets! Select the cloud.png
and go to the Inspector window
. you are going to change the settings to resemble this image!
Turning
Alpha is transparent
will make the background, well, transparent. The next step is to make sure it is still 2d. The Alpha Source
should be set to Input Texture Alpha
.
Step 3!
The next step is wo apply the cloud.png
onto a plane! At the top of your window, near the left side with all the options, select GameAssets>3d Objects>Plane
. If done correctly, you will spawn in a 3d Plane!
Once you spawn that shape in, apply the cloud to it. It will look nothing like a cloud, but don;t worry, you are almost done!
Step 4
Select the plane you applied the cloud.png
on and go to the Shader
Module. Once you do, look for and select the Sprite
option. After doing so, select Default
. If done correctly, the plane should now look like this!
I know it appears to be a lot, but once you figure out how to do this, it will make doing clouds- if you ever do so- So much easier! This kind of cloud is meant for the edge of maps, Think of it as a secondary detail for a skybox. While not a actual part of the skybox, it goves the skybox some more detail.
Cool Trick!
Also, if you are rotating an object manually, you can go to the transform option and type the exact number you need, most likely being that perfect 90 degrees we all love!
