THE IDEA
So, this might be crazy, but I have an idea. So, lets say you have played PvP games like ^prisonLife (You mostly see stuff like this on ^PrisonLife) and well, you see VR players teleport even though they have locomotion on, and you see VR players teleporting into the ground, All that is because of SteamVR. See, SteamVR players use this tool that basically changes allows them to teleport without going out of their play area and Rec Room saying they are moving too fast. they even go into the ground too in these PvP games, which can make things VERY annoying (Its only users that use Classic Bean too, this influence is one of the reasons I no longer use Classic Bean, and well, lack of customization) So, what if you did a test for about a weak or so that made Rec Room on Steam SCREENMODE ONLY. so they would only be able to play on PCVR using Meta Quest Link version of Rec Room, the one that you install on the Meta Quest Link PC app(They don’t need to use Meta Quest Link, What ever the OpenXR runtime is set to, Rec Room will use that. An example of this is a VirtualDesktop user set Virtual Desktop as the OpenXR Runtime.)
WHY SHOULD WE DO THIS?
If players can’t use SteamVR, they lose lots of things that SteamVR and tools(That could only function with the use of SteamVR) have to offer, and thats the point! Thats why this is a good thing. Meta (Or Oculus) Quest players can’t teleport under the ground or teleport like ten feet, But SteamVR does (It can also make players very tall, so now they can show off that they are actually 4.5 feet tall!) And even if they use the Meta Quest Link Version of Rec Room while also using steam, The hand positions may break completely, and (I know this from opening the Meta Quest Link Version of Rec Room using SteamVR) your hands will completely lose their vibrations. And since most PCVR players I meet use Meta Quest Link, or VirtualDesktop with Steam, they could just set the OpenXR Runtime to Meta Quest Link or VirtualDesktop. And i’m pretty sure players with PCVR headsets can play VR games without SteamVR.
Most IMPORTANT PART!!!
Basically, remove SteamVR from Rec Room, and make an OpenXR launch instead (This means Rec Room will launch in VR using whatever is set as the OpenXR Runtime, Its like that by Default on the Meta Quest Link Version of the game. The hard part is trying to make sure that SteamVR isn’t the one set as the OpenXR Runtime.
